October 30th

Calling Playground Angels!

Please remember that during “rainy day recess” we still could use help in the gym or classrooms.  But we try to go outside as often as possible during the fall and winter.

Thank you for your help in keeping recess fun and safe!

We will host a school Open House on Sunday, November 3, from 11:30 to 1:30pm, with an emphasis on our preschool program. Current Assumption families are welcome, and we encourage you to share the information with your friends and family who may be interested. Student ambassadors will be on hand to provide tours and answer questions.

Halloween Festivities

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 31 is Orange & Black Day! Students are welcome to wear these festive colors while following the free dress guidelines in your handbook.

Also tomorrow, our student ambassadors are hosting their annual pumpkin carving contest. Please bring a $2 entry fee, which will be used to gift the grand prize-winning artist! Honorary prizes will be given for spooky, unique, or funny categories. Please drop off your creations in the gym between 7:30 – 8:00 am. Judging will take place at 8:00 so our ambassadors can get to class!

K-5 Homework Support

We are looking for a parent volunteer to run an after-school homework support program for volunteer hours, one to two times per week. If this is something you’d be interested in, we would love to hear from you. Please email Dayna Dennis (ddennis@assumption.school) to express your interest. Thank you!

Dear ACS Families,

Thanks to the love and support of many, this year’s Bright Futures Annual Fund campaign is off to a strong start! Thank you to all who have already given- your generosity makes all the difference. Every gift, whatever the amount, helps us meet our goal, which means we all continue to benefit from affordable tuition and make the gift of Assumption accessible to more children!I plan to send an update on our progress toward the total goal of $140,000 every couple of weeks, which you will also see on our lovely “candle” banner as you drive through the traffic loop. It reminds us that our purpose at Assumption (and of the fund to help make it more affordable) is to help our students find their gifts and see their lights shine!

Gratefully,

Dayna

Coffee Hour Help and Middle School Youth Group Schedule

Hello Middle School Families,

Here are a few important updates for the coming weeks:

  • Coffee Hour on November 3rd:

Youth Group is hosting Coffee Hour with coffee and donuts in the Assumption School Gym after the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM Masses.

If you’d like to help, please join us in the gym at the start of the final song. We could use as many hands as possible to make the event a success!

  • Youth Group Schedule:

Due to holy days, long weekends, and scheduling conflicts, we will not meet for Youth Group on:

  • November 1st
  • November 8th
  • November 15th

Our next Youth Group gathering will be November 22nd, the Friday before Thanksgiving.

  • I hope you all enjoy this time with your families and the upcoming All Saints Day festivities! Feel free to give me a fist bump if you see me in passing.
  • If you have any questions, feel free to email Daniel at daniel@assumption.org.

Thanks!

I am very excited for the “Winter Ride” at Assumption this year.  Winter Ride is part of the 6th-8th grade physical education program and is an amazing opportunity for students to learn new skills and experience a winter sport with their classmates at Mt. Baker. This program will run on Tuesdays, January 7, 14, 21 and 28.  Students will be able to choose between skiing or snowboarding. Parents will be asked to drive and chaperone, leaving the school at 7:15AM and returning by 4:30PM.

Lessons will be provided in the morning, and in the afternoon, students will be able to practice what they learned with a buddy or small group.  Adult chaperones are also able to ski/snowboard with the small groups of students in the afternoon.

For students who do not want to go to Mt. Baker, we are offering ice skating at the Sportsplex.  Students will enjoy free skate as well as a 30 min. lesson.

Students must choose either skiing/snowboarding or ice skating.

Permission Slip and Informational packet for Winter Ride

Winter Ride permission slips, chaperone sign up, and important Winter Ride information will be sent home in the Wednesday Envelope on October 30.  Please read it thoroughly and bring any questions you have to the parent meeting (see below). Permission slips need to be turned into the office by November 13th.

Permission Slips for Ice Skating

For those students interested in ice skating please pick up a permission slip from Mrs. King in the office and return it by November 13th.

Winter Ride Parent Meeting

There will be an informational parent meeting on Thursday, November 4th at 7pm in the Gym. This is a mandatory meeting for any parent of a 6th grader or any family new to Assumption.  I ask that at least one parent attend.  Thank you!

Grandparents’ Day is less than a month away and it is time to let our beloved grandparents know about a special day we have planned. Mark your calendars for November 22nd, where our students will honor their grandparents. We are excited to announce that it will coincide with our Fall Book Fair. You and your child will have a chance to look at a celebratory selection of books in our school library for purchase and fundraising before and after Mass on Friday.

In your Wednesday envelopes today, you received two invitations.  We thought families could hand deliver if grandparents are in town or take a picture and text the invitation to relatives!

Día de los Muertos Altar (Day of the Dead)

We are pleased to inform you that, as part of our annual celebration of the Day of the Dead, we will be preparing a beautiful altar at the school’s main entrance in honor of Mexican families and celebrating the lives of our dearly departed.

To make this commemoration more meaningful and personal, we invite you to contribute photographs of your beloved deceased family members for display on the altar. If you are willing to share a photograph, kindly bring it to the office with a frame by Thursday or Friday.  Please include the name and grade in the back.

We understand the sensitivity of this request and want to assure you that these images will be handled with care and respect. They will be displayed lovingly and returned to you after the event.

Your contribution will not only honor your family member’s memory but also create a sense of unity and shared support within our community during this time of remembrance.

*History: This is a Mexican holiday celebrated in Mexico and elsewhere associated with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day and is held on October 31, November 1 and 2.  The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and to remember friends and family members who have died.
