SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Welcome! My name is Mrs. Katie White, and I am the School Counselor at Assumption Catholic School. I have been a proud member of the Assumption Catholic School community for the past five years and feel blessed to support our students and families each day.
School counseling services are available to all students both directly through individual, small group, classroom and school-wide programming. Support can also be delivered in-directly in the form of collaboration with parents, teachers, specialists, and administrators for support. Through multitiered systems of support, students can access services in areas of academics, social/emotional skill building, future planning, and because we are a Catholic School spiritual/character formation. I can also provide local resources for outside support for mental health and evaluation when requested. Please see below for local support options outside of our school.
Student privacy is maintained with care and dignity for each student. Confidentiality cannot be maintained in the cases of mandated reporting, harm to self or others is imminent, and/or legal requirements. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child and how I can help support their success here at ACS.
*Please note that communications sent over email may have the potential to be seen by those granted access to maintaining our school platform.

LEARNING SUPPORT

The goal of Learning Support is to ensure that the school meets the needs of all of our students academically. We use a standardized assessment called the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) to measure students’ growth three times a year. Based on these results, teachers are able to adjust their instruction to meet the needs of the whole class as well as individual students.

At Assumption, we also provide additional academic testing in partnership with the local public school districts to offer services for students with learning differences or those who need additional support.

TITLE I and III TUTORING

We also work with Bellingham Public Schools (BPS) to provide Title I (extra academic support) and III (multilingual learners) support. Depending on funding each year, our Title I and III Tutor supports small groups of students weekly to review and reinforce skills being taught in class. This is a BPS position paid by the district that serves Assumption students.

Students may be referred for services by their classroom teachers. Mrs. Nancy Lawrence coordinates the evaluation process through the district to determine whether a student qualifies for additional support services. If you would like more information about how your child may qualify for these services, we encourage you to speak with your child’s teacher or contact Mrs. Lawrence directly: nlawrence@assumption.school

As a school, we employ additional online resources to help support students and practice their learning at home.  Please use the links below to access these supplemental programs.
