May Crowning of Mary

On Thursday, May 12th (tomorrow), all students are encouraged to bring in flowers from their gardens. Each classroom will create a vase or two to adorn Mary’s statue in the church when we crown her during Friday’s school Mass. Thank you for helping our eighth grade to honor our Blessed Mother!

Fun Run progress

Thank you to everyone who showed up, helped students collect pledges and volunteered for the 38th Annual Ellen Anderson Fun Run! While the weather left MUCH to be desired, many laps were run, and lots of fun was had! Pledges are still rolling in and we have so far raised $15,700. Although a few are close, NO CLASS has reached 100% participation yet, so that Subway lunch and bragging rights are still anyone’s to earn!

A HUGE THANKS to our fabulous Fun Run Chairs who worked many hours ensuring the success of this important fundraiser. We are so grateful for their time and talents! Remember all pledge money is due to the office no later than Friday, May, 13th.

BHS XC Camp

The BHS Cross Country team (in partnership with Bellingham Parks and Recreation) is hosting a Cross Country Camp from June 27-30 for students with and without running experience entering grades 5 – 8 in the fall. In the past, we have had great representation from ACS at our camp, and we hope to soar with the Eagles again this summer.

Please see the digital flyer for details!

Device requirements for grades 5-8

All rising fifth-grade families (and students new to grades six through eight for the 2022-2023 school year) will need to purchase a laptop or other device to be used through the end of their eighth-grade year. Please see the linked letter with device requirements and expectations for technology during the school day. There is a digital form we’d like you to review with your child and digitally sign before the first day of school next year. We are including it in this week’s Wednesday Newsletter for other fifth through seventh-grade parents who may want to review these again. Thank you!

Family Promise Bed Race on Sunday, June 26th from 2 pm to 4 pm

The Interfaith Coalition and Family Promise have moved their Annual Bed Race (typically in September) to June this year. This is a great way to raise money for those experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County while having a bit of fun with your closest friends. We would love to have a team represented by Assumption Catholic School. There is a frame and bed available, so we just need a group to assemble it by the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th and then use it for the race on June 26th. For more information about the race or to register your team, visit https://www.interfaith-coalition.org/familypromisebedrace .

Family Promise of Whatcom County is starting its 5th year of serving the needs of this community to assist children and their families experiencing homelessness through meals, temporary housing and education with a goal to re-establish their independence. To date nearly 100 families have had a fresh start through Family Promise and the Interfaith Coalition. If you choose not to race, you can also sponsor the Family Promise Bed Race at http://bit.ly/bedraceentryfee2022

PTC News

Volunteer Coordinator role is a stipend position for 2022-2023

One of the roles in the PTC has been the Volunteer Coordinator. We decided last year that with the amount of work and the need for consistency in this role, there will be a stipend to do this work going forward. Jessica Sidhu has done an excellent job of managing the past two years, and we are looking for someone new to fill this role. It is associated with the PTC, but a $2,000 stipend per year is paid by the school. The job description for this position is listed below. Please reach out to Lynette Machinski or Dan Anderson if you are interested in being considered for this position. We are asking for a three-year commitment.

  • Expected hours per month: 4-5 hours
  • Stipend paid in December in April: Two $1,000 payments

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly PTC Executive Board meetings
  • Participate in/coordinate the Back-to-School volunteer sign-ups on the first day of school
  • Keep the volunteer page of the website current; includes creation of online sign-ups.
  • Assisting families learning to use the volunteer portal- possibly a tutorial at orientation.
  • Attending events as extra help if they don’t get enough volunteers (Spaghetti Dinner, Auction, Fun Run, Playground Angels) as your schedule permits.
  • Being accessible to and patient with families. Respond to parent emails quickly and professionally.
  • Manage hours for parents and ensure correspondence about tracking hours throughout the year
  • Coordinate with the office for text message reminders to families
  • Work with Room Parent Coordinator to make sure all classroom roles are filled

Many thanks to all of the volunteers who helped us make the 38th Ellen Anderson Fun Run a reality! Thank you to Natalie Milligan, Shannon Zebrowski, Eloisa Townsend, and Melissa Hanson for all their work behind the scenes to make this event great!

We still need an accompanist to make our performance great! If you or someone you know could accompany on guitar or piano, please let us know! Please reach out to theoffice@assumption.school with any questions.
