This is Teacher Appreciation Week
Please refer to communication from your Room Parents on ways to show your appreciation for our wonderful teachers for the remainder of this week. Huge thanks to the many parents who contributed to Tuesday’s potluck and our PTC for organizing it. Brunch was greatly enjoyed and appreciated!
In today’s envelope, you’ll find a form to submit a shout-out to a teacher or staff member you’d like to recognize. Please share those kudos with us by this Friday, May 6th. Yours may be posted to our school social media and will definitely be shared with the subject of your appreciation!
The Fun Run is Upon Us!
Check out our final flyer before tomorrow’s big event. Students may wear Fun Run t-shirts to school or class colors on Thursday. Please follow Free Dress guidance.
We are so excited to celebrate a return to this fun event with the entire school running together! Parents are welcome to come cheer students on and we still have a few volunteer spots available: ACS Volunteers: 2022 Fun Run Volunteering (signupgenius.com)
Remember that students may continue to collect pledges and turn in funds until Friday, May 13th and every little bit helps! NO class has yet achieved 100% participation, so those prizes are still anyone’s to earn!

BHS XC Camp
The BHS Cross Country team (in partnership with Bellingham Parks and Recreation) is hosting a Cross Country Camp from June 27-30 for students with and without running experience entering grades 5 – 8 in the fall. In the past, we have had great representation from ACS at our camp, and we hope to soar with the Eagles again this summer.
Please see the digital flyer for details!
Family Promise Bed Race on Sunday, June 26th from 2 pm to 4 pm
The Interfaith Coalition and Family Promise have moved their Annual Bed Race (typically in September) to June this year. This is a great way to raise money for those experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County while having a bit of fun with your closest friends. We would love to have a team represented by Assumption Catholic School. There is a frame and bed available, so we just need a group to assemble it by the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th and then use it for the race on June 26th. For more information about the race or to register your team, visit https://www.interfaith-coalition.org/familypromisebedrace .
Family Promise of Whatcom County is starting its 5th year of serving the needs of this community to assist children and their families experiencing homelessness through meals, temporary housing and education with a goal to re-establish their independence. To date nearly 100 families have had a fresh start through Family Promise and the Interfaith Coalition. If you choose not to race, you can also sponsor the Family Promise Bed Race at http://bit.ly/bedraceentryfee2022 .
We are pleased to announce that Zoe Copeland has been hired to teach fifth grade at Assumption starting in the 2022-2023 school year. Ms. Copeland moved to Bellingham from California in September 2021, but she lived here in 2015 and was a volunteer for EDP. She received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State, Northridge, and received her teaching credential at the same time. Since her time in Catholic schools from grades 1-12 and working for a summer camp run by the Sacred Heart sisters (ages 11-17), Ms. Copeland has always wanted to work at a Catholic school. She is back at Assumption because of her great experience working in Catholic settings and specifically here in EDP. She is very excited to be a part of the school community again and to make her home here in her teaching career. Ms. Copeland is a huge baseball fan, and roots for the L.A. Dodgers. She loves travel, hiking, and exploring new coffee shops. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Copeland to the fifth grade at Assumption Catholic School!
Volunteer Coordinator role is a stipend position for 2022-2023
One of the roles in the PTC has been the Volunteer Coordinator. We decided last year that with the amount of work and the need for consistency in this role, there will be a stipend to do this work going forward. Jessica Sidhu has done an excellent job of managing the past two years, and we are looking for someone new to fill this role. It is associated with the PTC, but a $2,000 stipend per year is paid by the school. The job description for this position is listed below. Please reach out to Lynette Machinski or Dan Anderson if you are interested in being considered for this position. We are asking for a three-year commitment.
- Expected hours per month: 4-5 hours
- Stipend paid in December in April: Two $1,000 payments
Roles and responsibilities:
- Attend monthly PTC Executive Board meetings
- Participate in/coordinate the Back-to-School volunteer sign-ups on the first day of school
- Keep the volunteer page of the website current; includes creation of online sign-ups.
- Assisting families learning to use the volunteer portal- possibly a tutorial at orientation.
- Attending events as extra help if they don’t get enough volunteers (Spaghetti Dinner, Auction, Fun Run, Playground Angels) as your schedule permits.
- Being accessible to and patient with families. Respond to parent emails quickly and professionally.
- Manage hours for parents and ensure correspondence about tracking hours throughout the year.
- Coordinate with the office for text message reminders to families.
- Work with Room Parent Coordinator to make sure all classroom roles are filled.
Interested in helping to make PTC events possible? We are also looking for a PTC Vice President for 2022-23! This important role make it possible to FUNdraise for our school and keep our community strong! Please contact email@example.com with questions.
Many thanks to Mrs. Bev Williams for coordinating Family Night at the Sportsplex! It was great to see everyone showing off their soccer, football and skating skills! We hope to make this an annual event.
We are very close to our exciting Missoula Children’s Theater week: May 16-21st! Children of all grade levels are encouraged to participate. The wonderful directors from MCT will help our students audition, rehearse and perform Johnny Appleseed. Rehearsals will be Monday through Friday for one week only and two performances will be held on Saturday, May 21st! Please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Our very last Take and Bake is coming! Mark your calendar for May 19th and get your orders in early – due May 13th (forms went home today). We will be offering a picnic-to-go with oven fried chicken, picnic potato salad, fruit, rolls, and cookies for dessert! All items are made from scratch, of course! We will also have our Take and Bake salad dressings for sale in 12 oz. bottles. This is your last chance to enjoy dinner cooked by our volunteer team this school year, so don’t miss out.
This is also your last chance for fundraising hours before the May 31st deadline! Sign up here to help in the kitchen: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4CA5AA23A1FEC25-picnic
Still need volunteer hours?
