WELCOME TO OUR NEW PRINCIPAL
E.Omar Ramos has been named the new Principal of Assumption Catholic School. He has more than 40 years of education experience as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator. His most recent position was Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership with a school in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Omar received his master’s degree from Texas A&M Kingsville and his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University. He retired from public school education in August 2024. He is fluent in Spanish.
His wife, Judy, is a public relations practitioner, having spent her career in various public and private organizations in the fields of tourism, public education communications, and freelance writing and consulting. She currently works in corporate communications in Fort Worth.
Omar and Judy have a young adult son, John-Ross, who has special needs and who lives with them. The three of them spend their free time together and enjoy traveling, nature walks and hiking, as well as attending sporting events, concerts, and other activities.
Omar and his family look forward to moving from DFW to Bellingham to begin a new chapter in their lives as they get to know the church, school, and community.
Congratulations and thank you to the principal search team including Basi Rodriguez as the chairperson and Fr. Moore’s guidance. We also thank Mrs. Karen Evans from the bottom of our hearts for stepping up to fill the gap year that we needed in order to find such a quality candidate.

Focus on First Grade!
Admissions season is in full swing, and we’re excited to share an update. With so many families returning next year and strong interest from new applicants, we anticipate that all but one of our classes will likely be full. It’s a blessing to see our community grow and thrive!
The exception is our 2025-26 first grade class, where we still have several spots available. This aligns with a lower-than-average demographic for this age group across many local schools. If you know a family seeking an excellent school for their First Grader, please connect them with Mrs. Dennis (ddennis@assumption.school). She is happy to answer any questions and arrange a no-obligation tour!

Facilities Corner! Building Blocks with Brenna
Hello Assumption families! I’m Brenna Clancy Sebens, your Assumption Campus Facility Manager.
I’m excited to have an occasional spot in the Wednesday Newsletter to share updates on what’s happening around our school campus. From big projects to small fixes, this is your inside look at how we’re keeping our school in top shape.
But first – a Joke – Why did the school floor feel so proud? Because it always supports everyone! Wow that was corny. How about Why did the school floor always get good grades? Because it didn’t crack under pressure!
- On that note~ We are SO thankful for 1st Stop Interiors and owners Joel and Patti Peralta for coming in last weekend and repairing the old and cracking flooring in the 1st floor boy’s bathroom. From all of us at Assumption – Thank you!
- Perhaps you’re like me and just recently learned what Gaga Ball is—and that we HAVE one! (Spoiler: It’s not Lady Gaga’s latest red-carpet look, though I was a little disappointed.) Gaga Ball is the exciting variation of dodgeball played in that octagonal wooden structure in the southwest corner of our playground. It’s been all the talk around campus!
To make this space more playable (and less like a mud-wrestling ring), we need to add some cedar wood chips. If you’re interested in taking on this fun project, please reach out! We do have some specific guidelines to follow, and I’d be happy to share the details.
- “Shred It & Forget It” – Assumption’s Shred Event. Got stacks of old papers, top-secret documents, or that pile of junk mail you swore you’d deal with last year? Well, now’s your chance!
Assumption is hosting a Shred Event – where you can safely and securely dispose of your documents while supporting our school. For just $5 per banker box, you can watch your paperwork get professionally shredded right before your eyes. (It’s surprisingly satisfying!). $5 minimum and you can bring as many boxes as you like. This is a fundraiser that is open to the community so tell your friends!
📅 Date: May 3rd from 10am – 12:00
📍 Location: Assumption Parking Lot
💵 Cost: $5 per banker box
I am told that teachers will NOT be accepting the excuse “Sorry my homework isn’t here because my parents shredded it” So, Bentley and Bryce (my kids) you have be warned.
Oh, and in other exciting news—we’ve officially ordered a new stage curtain! No more wondering if our current one is vintage or just very well-loved.
- A huge thank you to those who purchased this at the auction—your generosity is helping us take center stage in style!
When it arrives, we’d love to gather some helping hands (with some scaffolding) to get it installed. If you’re interested in lending a hand, let us know! Stay tuned for the big reveal… because, well, that’s what curtains do best! 😉

We’re thrilled to announce that it is almost time for the 41st Annual Ellen Anderson Fun Run!
The theme this year is: Let’s Glow! Neon Fun Run
This yearly event is an exciting way for the students to participate in fundraising for the school while having fun! We ask for parent cooperation by purchasing a T-Shirt asking family, friends, and neighbors for pledges per lap, or a flat pledge amount to help us reach our fundraising goal.
TODAY IN YOUR WEDNESDAY ENVELOPE IS A MANILA FOLDER AND PLEDGE SHEET FOR EACH CHILD. PLEASE RETURN THOSE ENVELOPES TO THE OFFICE WITH MONEY PLEDGED AND START EARNING RAFFLE TICKETS. THE OFFICE WILL RETURN YOUR ENVELOPE EACH WEEK AFTER WE COUNT THE MONEY AND WATCH HOW MUCH EACH CLASS BRINGS IN ON THE MAIN FLOOR BULLETIN BOARD.
The class with the most money raised will get an ice cream party!

AUCTION UPDATE: CO-CHAIR NEEDED
Seeking Auction Co-Chair Position: Do you enjoy planning large events and possess excellent communication skills? We are currently looking for a co-chair for the Growing Great Kids Auction and Gala on March 7th, 2026. This two-year commitment involves first learning the auction planning process and assisting in duties this coming school year, and then you will take the lead while coaching a new co-chair the following year. Duties include recruiting and managing several volunteer teams, giving reports at PTC meetings, overseeing the creation of marketing and communication materials, coordinating with internal school staff and external vendors, updating and managing an auction website, and managing financial details and budget for this important school fundraiser. 2025-26 Student Ambassadors
We had eight applications for Student Ambassadors from fifth grade for the 2025-26 school year and narrowed it to four students who interviewed this week. Mrs. Evans, Miss Copeland and Mrs. Dennis would like to thank all the students for their interest and hard work in preparing. We were truly so proud of all our applicants! Congratulations to Cecilia Boneau and Kirsti Stark who will join Hailey, Ilse, Finley, Julia and Collin as Student Ambassadors for next year.
Sixth grade students will be interviewing next Tuesday for two additional positions to represent their large class. Stay tuned for news of our fully assembled team!
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY AND SPORTS/GRADE POLICY REFINEMENT/CLARIFICATION
- Students are expected to keep their grades above 73% in order to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities. Students and families are responsible for keeping informed of their grades (see FACTS) and reaching out for help from teachers when needed. Students who have grades below 73% at 3:30 pm on Friday, will not be allowed to do sports or extra-curricular activities FOR THE ENTIRE NEXT WEEK. Even if your student gets their grade up the next week, they will still be unable to return to their activity or sport that week. Having a grade below 73% on Friday at 3:30 pm will result in a week-long suspension from sports/activities.
- Additionally, if the grade is still low on the following Tuesday, students should attend the after-school study hall to help them get caught up. This study hall is a great opportunity for students to get help from a teacher.
- Note that receiving a behavior report will also result in a student being unable to participate in sports and activities the entire following week.

Our van pick up at schools has been super popular with the parents – we got another one! We would love to revive the 3pm Thursday pick up at Assumption now that we have the van if you would help us get the word out for the spring classes. We have Coding and STEM class, Robotic Engineering, or TechGurlz at 3:30pm.

ACS Bilingual Student Stations of the Cross
ACS is responsible for hosting Friday, March 28th Bilingual Student-Led Stations of the Cross at 6:00. It is a wonderful way to pray.
Please consider signing up your child for a part. Needed: English and Spanish speakers, cross and candle bearers, Singing a transition. Students would need to be at the church by 5:45. There will be a quick rehearsal on Tuesday, March 25th right after school in the church. (3:15pm – 4pm) It is a great way to bring Lenten faith practices in your family. We need students! Archdiocese of Seattle’s 175th Anniversary Celebration
The Archdiocese of Seattle is celebrating its 175th anniversary! We are all invited to join Catholics across Western Washington to serve others together as the loving Body of Christ through the Season of Service, which runs from March to May of 2025.
