On this Day Commemorating All Souls’….

We regret to let the community know that one of our photography volunteer teachers, Ham Hayes, passed away on Saturday, October 29th. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Hayes started his involvement with the school in 2005 when we partnered with a school in Cambodia and returned to help with our photography classes in 2018. He was always impressed with our students and their sense of adventure in photography class.  He believed that photography is a wonderful way to discover more about who we are – how we see the world and how we express what we see.  Mrs. Evans has a card that she is circulating to the students so that they can write messages to his wife, Gloria, who was also part of our photography program for a while. Please keep his whole family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.

Eternal rest grant upon Ham, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen

The Lisa Fisher Event is next Wednesday, November 9th at 6 pm!

We’d like to provide childcare for our Assumption families who are planning to attend this event. Please fill out this survey so we might determine if a need exists. Middle school students are welcome to attend with their parents. Thank you!

IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO THINK ABOUT COLLEGE PLANNING!

Lisa Fisher, author of the book Admissions by Design, is a multi-award winning educator, former international teacher, college counselor, and educational consultant. We have a great opportunity to have her speak about her practical guide to college admissions on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, at 6:00 pm in our gym. Parents and students are invited to attend this free event, which we are opening to the public.

We could use a parent volunteer to help set up chairs and refreshments from 5-6 pm. To offer a hand or for questions, please contact Dayna Dennis: ddennis@assumption.school.

Development News

Dear ACS Families,

Thanks to the love and support of many, this year’s Annual Fund campaign is off to a strong start! Thank you to all who have already given- your generosity makes all the difference. Every gift, whatever the amount, helps us meet our goal, which means we all continue to benefit from affordable tuition and make the gift of Assumption accessible to more children!

I plan to send an update on our progress toward the total goal of $120,000 every couple of weeks, which you can also see on our beautiful “giving tree” as you drive through the traffic loop. Assumption students painted each lovely leaf, which are so cheerful to see as November takes hold and the real trees become bare.

Your copy of this year’s Annual Report was sent home today in each family envelope. The report summarizes our accomplishments and financial picture from last school year but is also intended to be a celebration of what makes Assumption such a special place to be. I want to publicly thank Lee Eberhardt for his always-outstanding photography and Justin Dalton for his mad design skills! Both totally made the publication, which we greatly hope you enjoy reading!

Gratefully,

Dayna

You’ll find a flyer in today’s Wednesday envelope to share. (Please disregard the 11:00 am start time on the calendar- thank you!)

Growing Great Kids Auction

How do we provide items for the Growing Great Kids Auction and Gala?

It’s all done through procurement. Procuring is the process by which we locate donations of goods and services which are then packaged up into exciting silent and live auction items. Each school family is required to procure an item or make a donation with a minimum value of $200.

THIS WEEKEND! Bellingham Chamber Chorale’s Fall 2022 Concert

“Wings” at Church of the Assumption

Saturday, November 5th at 8:00 p.m. & Sunday, November 6th at 5:00 p.m.

Our School Choir teacher and Assumption’s Director of Liturgy and Music is also BCC’s artistic director and conductor —Dr. Mabalot— will conduct a program entitled “Wings” inspired by literal and figurative wings.

For something that we lack, wings have always been a source of fascination for human beings. In the natural world, wings are the means to flight, all the more desirable to us earthbound.

This concert will feature a Renaissance masterpiece of polyphony –Palestrina’s Archangel Gabriel Mass, and pieces inspired by the waggle dance of a bee, a runner’s high, angels heralding a birth, a bluebird, a blackbird, and the desire to fly and be free.

Click here for more information and to buy tickets online.

Tickets will also be available at the door before each performance.

Walking in Holiness With the Saints

We hope that you will enjoy learning about how saints are a great example of holiness, strength, and courage one day at a time. Below is a description of a saint but their name is withheld. See if you can guess who the saint is and get your name put in for a prize drawing.  See Mrs. King in the office if you have a guess.

Last week: St. Therese of the Child of Jesus (aka: The little Flower)

The winner is Di Nguyen. Congrats Di!

New Saint:    She was an English princess born in 1046.  She and her mother sailed to Scotland to escape the king that overruled her land.  King Malcom of Scotland welcome them.  Eventually, he fell in love with the princess, and they were married.  Even though he was a good man, he was harsh with the people.

As queen now, Malcolm observed her kindness and wisdom when dealing with the people of his kingdom.  He began to take her advice and follow her example.  She helped him to learn to control his temper and it was not long before they were wonderful Christian models for everyone.  She and her husband, the King, worked to attain good teachers for the people, built churches and she hand embroidered many vestments for the priests.  She did things right to please Jesus.  Let us ask this saint to help us attain those virtues that help us get to heaven.

Who is this saint?  ________________
