Parent-Teacher Conferences- November 4th and 5th

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 4th from 12:30 to 7:30 pm and November 5th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. They will be a combination of Zoom and in-person meetings this year, depending on parent preference. Parents are not required to be vaccinated to schedule an in-person conference. Please click on the link for your child(ren)’s teacher(s). If you prefer a Zoom call, sign up for a slot that is dedicated to a Zoom call. If all of these slots are filled, please sign up for another (in-person) time and note “prefer a Zoom call” in your comment/notes. The teacher will contact you with a link. Conversely, if all in-person conference times are taken, you can sign up for a Zoom time and note your preference for “in-person” instead.

8th Grade Class Poinsettia and Wreath Fundraiser

The holidays are just around the corner!  Please help support the 8th grade class by purchasing lovely poinsettias from Vanwingerden Gardens and greenery from Sherwood Farms in Lacey for your holiday decor.  All proceeds support our 8th grade spring retreat and graduation. Thank you in advance for supporting the class of 2022!

Please note the turnaround is quick and orders need to be in by Monday, November 1st. Order forms went home last week and are also available here, so be sure to get yours back in (and print more here for your loved ones)! The products from these suppliers have been consistently beautiful and long-lasting.

Girls’ Basketball starts Monday, October 25th

Thank you to Mrs. Whelan for agreeing to coach the middle school girls’ basketball team this year. Mr. Dru Sloan will be coaching the boys’ team. The seasons are staggered this year in order to have enough officials so the girls’ season will go from October 25th to December 10th and the boys’ season will go from November 28 to January 28th (minus the Christmas season).

COVID protocols will be followed according to the WA Dept. of Health Sports and Fitness Guidance.

Please return the forms for girls’ basketball no later than this Friday, October 22nd

The boys’ basketball forms will be sent home next week and won’t be due until Friday, November 19th.

Help us offer Chess Club this year!

After last year’s brief hiatus, Coach Peter Witecki, who has led our ACS Chess Club for an incredible 25 years, has offered to bring the game back to Assumption students! Before we can figure out details, we need a volunteer in place to chair the club and coordinate/supervise practices, etc. You do NOT have to know the game of chess to perform in this role!

If you’re interested in this position that earns school volunteer hours, please contact Mrs. King for more information re: the duties entailed: aking@school.assumption.org

Seeking an Athletic Director and Activities Coordinator

The school’s activities director resigned in the middle of last school year and without a sports program, we didn’t need that role filled- UNTIL NOW… We posted for the position last summer and didn’t have any applicants. We are now urgently appealing to parents. Please view the job description and email Mr. Anderson if you are interested. We need someone soon to help with girls’ basketball starting on October 25th. The position is a stipend position, starting at $3,000 for the year (pro-rated to begin in October), and your volunteer hours are met if you are hired. The hours are flexible, but busier during basketball and volleyball seasons. Please apply if you are interested or pass this information along to someone else you may know is qualified.

School Mass this Friday

This Friday, October 22nd, grades K-1 and 6-8 will go to the church for Mass with our Sixth Graders leading. Parents are welcome to attend the weeks that their children are attending, and community members are also welcome to Friday School Masses. We ask that visitors sit in the north and south transepts instead of with the students. Masks are required of everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

Picture Retakes – Tuesday, October 26th

If your child needs photo retakes or was absent for original photos, they will be done next Tuesday, October 26. Students may come to school in free dress but must change into their uniform after their picture has been taken. In the case of retakes, original picture packets must also be returned to the Lifetouch photographer. Pictures will be taken first thing in the morning.

We have not yet received printed photo orders from our original picture day in September. We’re hopeful they’ll arrive in time to send home so you can decide if you’d like retakes. If they arrive before the 26th, we’ll plan to send them home in your child’s homework folder (unless you request an alternative).

Calling all Treaters!

In case you know any, the Assumption Family Ministry needs kids who like candy on Saturday, October 30th for its annual Trunk or Treat celebration, starting at 6:15 pm! Our parish and school communities are filled with children in need of fun and treats in a safe environment.

Please see the printed flyer in today’s envelope for more information. Thank you for helping us celebrate this most loved of all “kid” holidays for our children!
