Seeking a Chess Club Chairperson

After last year’s brief hiatus, Coach Peter Witecki, who has led our ACS Chess Club for an incredible 25 years, has offered to bring the game back to Assumption students! Before we can figure out details, we need a volunteer in place to chair the club and coordinate practices, etc. If you’re interested in this position, please contact Mrs. King for more information re: the duties entailed: aking@school.assumption.org

Calendar update

This month’s Pizza Lunch date has been changed to Monday, the 25th (previously Oct. 18th). Order forms will go home in next week’s physical envelope.

Seeking an Athletic Director and Activities Coordinator

The school’s activities director resigned in the middle of last school year and without a sports program, we didn’t need that role filled- UNTIL NOW… We posted for the position last summer and didn’t have any applicants. We are now urgently appealing to parents. Please view the job description and email Mr. Anderson if you are interested. We need someone soon to help with girls’ basketball starting on October 25th. The position is a stipend position, starting at $3,000 for the year (pro-rated to begin in October), and your volunteer hours are met if you are hired. The hours are flexible, but busier during basketball and volleyball seasons. Please apply if you are interested or pass this information along to someone else you may know is qualified.

NO SCHOOL this Friday

This Friday, October 15th, is a no school day so that teachers and staff may attend their annual retreat. We hope your children enjoy their extended weekend!

Picture Retakes – Thursday, October 26th

If your child needs photo retakes or was absent for original photos, they will be done on Tuesday, October 26. Students may come to school in free dress but must change into their uniform after their picture has been taken. In the case of retakes, original picture packets must also be returned to the Lifetouch photographer. Pictures will be taken first thing in the morning.

Trunk or Treat- Save the Date!

Assumption Family Ministry needs YOU on Saturday, October 30th (event begins at about 6:15; after the 5 pm Mass)!  Our parish and school communities are filled with children in need of a safe way to have Halloween fun and collect some well-deserved treats!

We are coordinating a COVID-conscious Trunk or Treat this year and are looking for families willing to open their trunks and pass out candy (decorated tables are also an option)! Masks will be worn by all participants and volunteers will be in place to ensure everyone follows health protocols.

If you can commit to passing out candy at this event, please follow the link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B4EADA92EABFC1-assumptions1

We’ll advertise the event to families when all details have been finalized (and we have enough treat givers!). Thank you in advance for helping us make this idea a reality for the children of our Assumption community!

Halloween Contest coming on October 28th

Cross Country Update

From Coach Sara Rush:

Another perfect day for a meet up in Lynden on October 7th. We finally got to run a meet that had a little bit of trails and some incline spread out in places. After a great week of practices our runners again stepped up and put on a performance! We had four runners in the top 15 and Micah P. got to run his first race and was our number five man today on the team! We ended up tying for first with Franklin Academy in the men’s race. Taylor took 1st, Baynes 5th, George 12th and Liam 14th.

The team wasn’t able to score a women’s team on October 7th, yet a huge shout out to Genevieve W, who shaved another 58 seconds off her time this week after decreasing her time by a minute last week. These runners continue to amaze and impress us daily!
