Building Blocks – The “Back-to-School Shuffle” Edition
Dear Parents,
The campus is buzzing as the first bell just rang! We can all call last week a partial practice week. Here are a few updates you and your students may notice during the “back-to-school shuffle”:
Fresh Floors & Classrooms
New flooring was installed in 3 classrooms AND the girl’s restrooms, and the hallways just got a deep carpet cleaning. A brighter, cleaner space for our kids to learn and grow!
Girls Restroom
The restroom was long overdue, and we are glad for the parents who helped us add a little sparkle. Please encourage your student, to help us keep our restrooms (especially the ceilings) in good condition. The wadded, soap and towel balls that stuck to the ceiling created plaster damage and we had to have them professionally removed and repaired this summer.
Science room?
The intended facilities project this summer was to be on the middle school science room. We are blessed with the offer of help from architect Andrew Krzysiek and General Contractor Pearson Construction. It was because of them; a wonderful design has been drawn up and is in process with the City of Bellingham. Thank you for all who donated for this esteemed project that will be impacting generations to come.
Stairwell Facelift
Who doesn’t love a stairwell that elevates the entire environment? Both stairwells had a buff and new polish put on to match the classrooms that were already getting the spa treatment. Thank you SO much for our incredible volunteers who put in LONG days.
Please note the artwork –
Charcoal art from the 1940’s was discovered when cleaning out the principal’s office. No one could place the artist, but their gift of incredible art is one we will all share. Please take a bit to peruse the Virginia street side staircase and thank Mrs. Michelle King for all the work and financial effort it took to professionally frame and preserve these.
We have a wonderful new addition to our Assumption Team – Kyle Chavez. Kyle came to us through Viking Catholic. He is in the welding program at BTC and spent 4 very successful years in the Army as a Forward Observer with the 10th mountain stationed out of Fort Polk Louisiana. Ted Kronk and I are very happy to have him on board. His attention to detail, and calm around the kids is phenomenal.
Sound System
While we had tweaked the sound system at the beginning of the summer other groups used it and it fell out of sync. We will be taking up a fundraiser to go towards sound system supplies to elevate what we have and replace what we need to. If you would like to donate, Please feel free to drop a check off to Angie and NOTE “Sound system” on it”
Amazon Wish List
All our teachers have this wonderful amazon wish lists and all of them include extremely needed items. However, I am asked regularly to update the security lighting and to add some cameras around the perimeter. I have put this on my own amazon wish list that can be found on the front table in the entry way of the school.
On a final note – during the summer months I am always in awe of how diligently your teachers and office staff work. Their job is truthfully a 360-day, full body, mind and spirit effort. We are blessed and reap the reward of their giving spirits and attention to detail.
Thanks for tuning in. Your friendly neighborhood Facilities Manager,
Brenna Clancy Sebens
Teacher’s Wishlists

We will keep the table up in the lobby with the QR codes for each teacher for another week. And thank you to all those that have helped purchase an item or two for our teachers. We have a very generous community here.
Casual Uniform Each Wednesday/Early Release
Again, this year, Early Release Wednesday is a “casual uniform” or regular uniform day. Every Wednesday dismissal will be at 2:00 pm unless otherwise communicated to parents via text, email, or calendars. Casual uniforms allow for students in K-8 to wear any of their shirts with any ACS logo and jeans or school pants, skort or shorts according to the calendar.
Leggings or stretchy-type pants may not be worn and will result in an “out of uniform” slip. This year’s Parent-Student Handbook with policies will be made available next week at Curriculum Night. If you need a logo ‘’t-shirt, they are available through School Outfitters or Lands’ End. We have a limited supply of sizes in the USED UNIFORM stock.
🌹 You’re Invited to Pray!
All parents are warmly invited to join us in praying the Rosary together every Tuesday after drop-off in the school library.
This is a beautiful opportunity to come together in prayer, lift up our children, families, and community, and find peace at the start of the week.
If you are new to praying the Rosary, we have easy to follow cheat sheets. You are also welcome to come and pray quietly. Babies and toddlers are welcome!
📍 Location: School Library
🗓 Every Tuesday
⏰ Right after morning drop-off(8:15)
Bring your rosary (extras will be available if needed). We look forward to seeing you there!
Parent Permission and Device-Use Guidelines at Assumption Catholic School
An updated permission form will be available at Curriculum Night. Thank you.
Welcome, New Families!
We are blessed to have 27 new K-8 students this school year and are grateful to our ACS community for making these children and their families feel welcome! If you see a parent around campus that you don’t know, we hope everyone will introduce themselves. Opening our arms as a school community is a huge way we can actively live our faith.
If you are a new family, we hope you enjoyed the welcome sign in your yard, courtesy of our PTC “elves”! We’d love to celebrate your children with a photo of them with their sign and your permission to share. Feel free to email your pictures: ddennis@assumption.school. Thank you!
FACTS Family Portal
If you are new to the school OR have a Sixth Grader this year, we want to help you access family information and middle school grades/assignments via the FACTS Student Information System! Parent-Student Handbook for 2025
A review of this year’s Parent/Student Handbook will be made available next week. Thank you for your patience while we update all forms from the office with our new principal.
Water bottles
Please remember to send your child(ren) to school with a water bottle. We have three filtered fountains (one on each floor) for chilled refills.
Drop-off/pick-up procedures- IMPORTANT!
- For the safety of the children, please do not use a cell phone while driving through the traffic loop. We need parents to be extra diligent and drive slowly in the traffic loop since there are so many students and significant traffic.
- Please also remember not to arrive before 11:45 am or 2 pm on Early Release Days, and not before 3 pm on regular days. We don’t want cars to back up on the street. If you’re here early, pull in and park until the gate opens.
- Students will be dismissed at 3 pm, but we stagger the pick-up so that K-4 parents should pick up at 3:05 pm and 5-8 parents at 3:10 pm. Preschool parents can pick up at 3 pm. If you arrive before 3 pm, please pull in and park until the gate opens at 3:05 pm. If your child is not at his/her sign, please pull around the loop (you don’t need to go all the way out of the parking lot).
- Do not allow children to run on the sidewalks as traffic is moving nearby.
- Remember that traffic is always one way in the morning and the afternoon. Enter by the Virginia St. side and exit on the Kentucky St. side (by Bellingham High School).
- Students in grades four and above can have permission to walk or bike home. Children in grades three and below must walk with a parent or older sibling. Students who are biking or walking should exit through the Cornwall gate only. We need consent on this form (link to PDF) if you give your child permission to walk or bike home. Please complete this by Friday, September 5th.
Pizza Lunches this Year!
Don’t forget to fill out a pizza form and check the monthly calendars for those days we have pizza delivered from Little Ceasar’s! This year we just need you to fill out one form per student for the whole year! Due September 5th!
Office communication

Saint Question of the Week!
Which saint is considered “the mother of the poor”? She is the patron saint of World Youth Day, Missionaries of Charity and a co-patron of the Archdiocese of Calcutta, alongside St. Francis Xavier. Her feast day is celebrated on September 5th. She often said, ‘Holiness is not the luxury of the few, it is a simple duty for each one of us.” May her example help us to strive for holiness: to love God, to respect and love every human person created by God in His own image and in whom He dwells, and to care for our poor and suffering brethren.
**Put your name and answer in the jar by the Disciple Board near the office.
