Family Promise Bed Race on Sunday, June 26th from 2 pm to 4 pm

The Interfaith Coalition and Family Promise have moved their Annual Bed Race (typically in September) to June this year. This is a great way to raise money for those experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County while having a bit of fun with your closest friends. We would love to have a team represented by Assumption Catholic School. There is a frame and bed available, so we just need a group to assemble it by the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th and then use it for the race on June 26th. For more information about the race or to register your team, visit https://www.interfaith-coalition.org/familypromisebedrace .

Family Promise of Whatcom County is starting its 5th year of serving the needs of this community to assist children and their families experiencing homeless through meals, temporary housing and education with a goal to re-establish their independence. To date nearly 100 families have had a fresh start through Family Promise and the Interfaith Coalition. If you choose not to race, you can also sponsor the Family Promise Bed Race at http://bit.ly/bedraceentryfee2022

Staffing updates

As of last week, we had 30 students enrolled or with applications submitted for fourth grade for the 2022-2023 school year. The decision has been made to split the fourth grade into two classes for the next school year. Mrs. Kerry Thomas has agreed to postpone her retirement for one more year in order to teach the other fourth-grade class in partnership with Mrs. Martin-Zender. We are excited that she will be with us one more year and grateful that we have the space and the budget to keep these students in smaller class sizes for another year. Class assignments for students will be decided in mid-August with the help of this year’s third-grade teachers and other factors.

Interviews began last week for a part-time preschool teacher, and we will be interviewing this week for the office assistant position. The fifth-grade position is still open through this Friday, and we hope to make a decision in early May. Please click here to see the fifth-grade job posting on the school’s website: https://school.assumption.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Job-Posting-Fifth-Grade-Teacher-2022.23.pdf

Science Fair

Don’t forget our Science Fair this Thursday night in the gym from 5:30-7 pm.  3-D images to accompany tri-fold boards must be turned in by Thursday to be included in judging. Projects from all students will be on display for your perusal. We invite all our families to check out the great collection of work from these bright science minds!

Remember to come for the Multi-Cultural Potluck and stay for the science. We hope to see you there!
