Holy Hoops is off to an amazing start!
What an incredible kickoff to Holy Hoops 2025. The energy in the gym was electric—from the roar of the crowd to the sportsmanship on the court. It was especially great to see so many alumni back in the gym and to watch our eighth graders step confidently into their leadership roles.
A huge welcome to our fifth graders, many of whom played in their first Holy Hoops game. They showed tremendous courage, teamwork, and heart, and made some fantastic plays that had everyone cheering.
The fun continues this afternoon!
We’re just getting started. Tonight promises to be another action-packed day of basketball, community, and celebration. Because it’s an early release day, the Holy Hoops festivities will begin at 2:15 PM with Individual Competitions.
At 3:00 PM, the games begin with Saint Kateri taking on Saint Cecilia in the first girls’ bracket matchup. The excitement builds from there with a full lineup of games to follow.

A Shout-Out to Our Cub Scouts
Thank you to our Cub Scouts for proudly presenting the flag to start the event. We love seeing our students take on leadership roles both on and off the court.
Volunteers Needed
We are still in need of volunteers for clean-up, especially after the final games. Clean-up is quick, counts toward volunteer hours, and makes a big difference in keeping things running smoothly.
Volunteer Signup Link
We’ll wrap up the tournament with a celebration for all players and families, complete with pizza, cake, and awards. Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly.
Important Reminders
To keep things safe and fun for everyone:
• Parent supervision is required during the event.
• Students must stay inside the gym unless accompanied by an adult.
• No basketballs behind the bleachers or during games.
• During games, please find a seat and enjoy the action.
• Stay off the stage so our MC can focus on announcing.
We can’t wait to see everyone back in the gym tomorrow for another great day of competition, school spirit, and community fun. Let’s keep the energy high and the cheering loud—Go Holy Hoops!

P.S. If your child or player can’t make it to their game, please email me. That’s the best way to reach me.

We are thrilled to share that Assumption Catholic School has been awarded Silver for Best Private School in Bellingham Alive magazine’s Best of the Northwest 2025, and it’s all thanks to you! This recognition is more than just a title; it’s a reflection of the incredible community we are blessed to be part of.Out of more than 78,000 submissions in our category, your support lifted us into the spotlight, and we are incredibly honored. It affirms that our mission is thriving and that we are truly spreading Christ’s love in the world through your children!
Invest in Bright Futures!

Every year, our Bright Futures Annual Fund helps bridge the gap between what it actually costs to educate a student at Assumption and what we charge in tuition. We purposely build fundraising into our operations budget to keep tuition as low as possible for you, our families. For the 2025–26 school year, that difference is approximately $3,015 per student. That’s where we all come in!
Your gift to Bright Futures goes straight to work:
🏫 Covering essential operational costs
📊 Helping us balance the budget
🌱 Supporting the long-term sustainability of our school
And here’s a bonus: Unlike tuition, your donation is tax-deductible! 🎉
Reaching our $145,000 goal means we can meet our budget, and every dollar helps light the way for another Bright Future.
💫 Will you be part of the magic this year?

Facilities Update:🧱 Building Blocks
This month’s Building Blocks is about caring for our school spaces—together!
Restroom Vandalism
Since September, the girls’ restroom has unfortunately been vandalized multiple times, with the paint scratched off the stalls. We’ve had to repaint three times already. Brenna has now applied an industrial polyurethane coating to make the stalls more durable and hopefully discourage further damage.
Please take a moment to speak with your children about respecting school property. Mr. Ramos has made the decision to keep the girls’ restroom closed until the responsible student comes forward. In the meantime, individual restrooms remain available for use.
The boys’ restroom has had its own challenges—with wads of wet paper towels and soap being thrown onto the ceiling, causing surprising plaster damage. Again, we ask for your partnership in reminding students to treat our shared spaces with care and pride.
Clean and Healthy Spaces
We’re well into October and continuing to focus our janitorial efforts on disinfecting high-touch surfaces and keeping our campus clean and healthy. We’re also excited to introduce our newest addition to the maintenance team: a brand-new floor cleaning and sanitizing machine! It doesn’t have a name yet, so help us out—send your funniest or most creative name ideas to Brenna@assumption.org. (“Sir Mop-a-Lot”? “Floorgie”? We’re open to suggestions!)
Scrip Room Revitalization
We’re making great progress on revitalizing the Scrip Room so that Scrip sales can soon move to a warm, indoor location! If you or someone you know would like to lend a hand with painting or flooring in this small space, please reach out to Brenna at Brenna@assumption.org.
Thank you for helping us keep Assumption’s campus beautiful, functional, and full of pride.

¡Todavía hay cupo para la Confirmación de 7º a 12º grado en la Iglesia de la Asunción y Sacred Heart! Cada familia debe tener una reunión privada con Daniel Prenosil antes de inscribirse. Peacemaker Virtue for October- Charity
This year ACS will be highlighting the monthly peacemaker virtue in our school newsletter so families can follow along in practicing the virtue theme at home. Our virtue for October is Charity with St. Teresa of Calcutta as our inspiration.
In Catholicism, charity is defined as the theological virtue by which we love God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves for love of God. It is the highest form of Christian love, expressed through selfless acts and rooted in divine grace.
Here are some ideas for families to live out charity in daily life:
- Pray together – Ask God to grow love and compassion in your hearts. Seek to find a local faith community. Local Parish info- Whatcom Catholic
- Practice Charity in Relationships – Promote forgiveness and reconciliation, speak kindly, share generously, be present with one another, and include those who may feel left out.
- Serve others as a family – Volunteer, visit the sick, or help a neighbor in need.
Participate in a parish service project or connect with local outreach partners:
Hope House- Bellingham Hope House – Church of the Assumption | Bellingham, WA
Catholic Community Services- Volunteer | Catholic Community Services of Western Washington
Prepares-Volunteer with PREPARES | Catholic Community Services of Western Washington
Living fruitful Charity begins with encountering Christ, is nurtured though faith-filled family life, and then overflows into the world.
1 Corinthians 13:13: “So faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

NEW SAINT QUESTION OF THE WEEK 10.15.25
This Saint was one of the four Gospel writers in the New Testament. He wrote the Gospel of ______? and the Acts of the Apostles.
He was a companion of Saint Paul on many of his missionary journeys. He helped spread the message of Christ. Paul called him the beloved physician, showing that he was both a doctor and a friend. His writings tell us about the early Church and how the Good News of Jesus spread.
His Gospel focuses on the mercy and compassion of Jesus. It includes stories like the Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan. He often wrote about how Jesus cared for the poor, the sick, and those who were suffering.
This Saint is honored as the patron saint of doctors and artists. His feast day is celebrated on October 18th. His legacy is important for helping Christians understand the message of Christ.

Hope House Christmas Program

Hope House sponsors 70-80 families each year that need help providing Christmas gifts to their kids. We are looking for a few more people that are willing to sponsor a family in need. If interested, you would be matched up with a family in need and will receive names, ages, clothing sizes, and Christmas wish lists for each kid in the family. You then shop for each kid, picking out one toy item and one clothing item per kid as well as filling up a stocking for each kid.
We expect sponsoring families to spend roughly $60-$80 per kid. If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, please email April Jordan-Hulsey with how big of a family you are willing to take on. apriljh@ccsww.org
