Distinguished Alumni Award during Catholic Schools Week

During Catholic Schools Week each year, we honor an alumnus/alumnae from Assumption who has continued to be a leader in the community and a supportive member of the Catholic church. If you know someone who graduated from Assumption in the year 2005 or earlier, please fill in the attached Microsoft Form with his/her contact information and we will vote as a staff on January 17. https://forms.office.com/r/nrfWi2NiwZ

Rubik’s Cubes and other toys at school

We have always asked students to keep toys at home since they may get lost or broken at school, and sometimes they create a distraction. Recently, there has been a Rubik’s Cube phenomenon at Assumption. The teachers have been asking students to leave these and other toys at home unless specifically asked to be brought for a purpose. Students may first be asked to put these in their backpacks, but if teachers see them again, they may collect and hold them until the end of the school day. Please remind your children to leave all toys and Rubik’s Cubes at home. Thank you.

Mothers and Children Group

There is a new group for mothers. We meet in the Stafford Room on the first and third Fridays of each month at 9:00 am, immediately after the 8:15 school Mass. Please join the group for a casual time of support and fellowship. We will visit and share our experiences of raising our children in the faith. If you have little ones not yet in school, bring them along. Any questions, please contact the parish office or Deacon Larry at 360-733-1380 or parishoffice@assumption.org

Thank you!

The meeting dates through June 2023 are:

  • January 6 and 20
  •  February 3 and 17
  •  March 3 and 17
  •  April 21

Walking in Holiness With the Saints

We hope that you will enjoy learning about how saints are a great example of holiness, strength, and courage one day at a time. Below is a description of a saint but his/her name is withheld. See if you can guess who the saint is and get your name put in for a prize drawing.  See Mrs. King in the office if you have a guess.

Last week: St. Francis Xavier

Congratulations ……. Alden Kerstiens in Mrs. McClurg’s room!

New Saint: This saint is an Italian virgin-martyr of the Catholic Church, and one of the youngest saints to be canonized. She was born to a farming family. Her father died when she was nine, and the family had to share a house with another family. She took over household duties while her mother, brothers and sister worked in the fields.

When she was 11 years old, a young man known to her family, made advances towards her, and wanted to do her harm.  She refused to do what he wanted and fought back and screamed.  This young man was so angry that he then stabbed her 14 times. This brave saint later died after forgiving him of his sinful actions.

The man who killed her served time in jail. He became a monk after his conversion. And when he was released, he attended the canonization of this saint along with her mother in 1950.  She is the patron saint of chastity, teenagers and victims of crime and also forgiveness.

Who is this saint?  ________________
