We had a fabulous Mass today! Thank you to families that helped the speakers/readers do their parts. You support is immense!

In social studies, your children are having fun researching and preparing a Power Point presentation on a region of Washington State. They will be teaching the rest of the class about it early next week.

Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians prepared for the Mass this week as well as had another lesson in Second Step in which students “rethink” situations where there were strong feelings.
Language – Fourth grade readers are finishing up small groups on one of these books: Freckle Juice; Sarah, Plain and Tall; Whipping Boy; or War with Grandpa. In spelling, we focused on the words with more letters than sounds.
Math – Mathematicians worked on factors of multiplication and the divisibility rules in order to prepare for the fraction unit next chapter.
Science – We revised our salmon test if needed this week on Seesaw.

Social Studies – Students are researching the regions of Washington

Spanish – Una nota de Señora Anna- This week in Spanish, we learned vocabulary to talk about the weather and seasons. We compared pictures, descriptions and clothing for different types of weather.

Art – Exploring Human Proportions through Skiing Characters -Students will learn about human proportions by using basic shapes to create characters engaged in skiing activities. Students will practice drawing and refining their characters to demonstrate an understanding of human body proportions. 

Music – This week in music we are singing and moving to the song Clock Round and analyzing the rhythms in the song. WE are learning about Johann Sebastian Bach and the time period in which he was alive as well as listening to and analyzing Brandenburg Concert No. 3  by Bach.

Dear Families, January 5, 2024

Happy New Year! As I told your children that this is my favorite teaching time of the year: from January to March…so much learning and growth goes on! So, I told them to put on their seat belts and get ready for the ride!

We began with quickly reviewing division and moving right into multi-step problem solving! Next week will be the test on Chapter 4 on division.

Next week, our students have their Mass on Friday, January 13th. Please come and be with your children! I will email the four students’ parents with the speaking parts.

Thank you to all the parents that came in to help with dissecting the salmon creating salmon prints. The students learned so much. Special thanks to Libby Stark for researching, making numerous calls, getting the salmon, storing them and bringing them in! You’re incredible! We are still on for Wednesday’s salmon/Christmas feast! (December 13th at 11:00) We would love to have as many parents join us! Sign up here if you would like to bring something. Dear Families, December 3, 2023

We had a fabulous field trip on Thursday! It was COLD, but we learned so much and was able to put our faith into action by taking care of God’s Creation by reclaiming an area that had the invasive blackberry bushes. Students pulled out the “hearts” of them. The salmon we studied can survive better without this invasive plant in their riparian! Thank you to all the wonderful parents that volunteered to walk, lead and hang out with us in the cold! 🙂

Speaking of salmon, we are going to be dissecting some salmon and creating salmon prints and we need parent volunteers on Tuesday afternoon, December 5th at 1:00! We will also have a Traditional Salmon feast/Christmas celebration with students on the following Wednesday, December 13th at 11:30. Families are encouraged to bring their family’s traditional Salmon or Christmas dish! If you would like to help set up, please come at 11:00. Dear Families,

Wow! What a week! As a student said to me: “We had a lot of celebrating this week with Halloween, a birthday and a going-away party!” Why yes, we did do a lot of celebrating! Thank you to all the parents that sent/brought things in for it as well as helping put on the events! You are appreciated by my students and me!

Next week is not slowing down! We celebrating Vocation Week by listening to a Sister and a Brother and asking them questions. We had a great discussion as to what vocations are. We had parents that came for the party today share their vocations of marriage, being parents as well as their career they have been called to do. I invited students to ask their parents what their vocation is.

Thursday, November 6th is Veterans Day. Our class is responsible for it at 8:15 am. All scouts, please wear your uniform and accompany the Colors up the aisle. You are welcome to come. However, if you have a family member that is a veteran, please invite them. Either if they can come, they can’t come or they have passed away, we would like to honor them by creating a bulletin board with their picture and other information. Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians finished their Saints Power Points and many of them have presented them. We still have a few more to finish and present. We also learned about vocations to prepare for Vocations week next week.
Language – For reading, we are continuing to read My Father’s Dragon as a class, analyzing vocabulary, characters and plot. In writing, we focused on synonyms Spelling this week was the long o sound with: o, ow, and oa.
Math – Mathematicians have finished chapter 2, multiplying one digit to up to four digits. They have begun chapter 3 which is two-digits times two-digits. Next week, I will be teaching the concepts of how we get to the “regrouping” method. If students understand the concepts before they learn the faster method the success goes up. So, bear with us. We will get to the way that parents multiply! 🙂 If students do not know their multiplication facts by now, it will be much harder for them. So, please support your child by testing him/her on these facts daily!
Science – We are learning about sound waves and experimenting with various waves and pitches. Social Studies – We are learning about cultures and how our environment affects our culture.

Spanish – Una nota de Señora Anna-This week in Spanish, we learned about the celebration of Día de los Muertos (Oct. 31-Nov. 2). We especially focused on the meaning of the ofrenda (alter to celebrate those who have passed on from this life) and the items it includes. We also learned how to draw a calavera!
Physical Education – This week in PE we reviewed overhand throwing and catching cues, practiced throwing and catching various sized balls, and played games using our throwing and catching skills called Catch Everything, Mat ball and Protect the Pin.

Music – This week in music class we Completed Episode 4 Secret Chicken, the aural skills rhythm decoding series; created a story using sound effects; and learned the song and dance Old Brass Wagon. 

Art – Students learned about the natural textures and colors of turkey feathers and explored the oil pastel blending technique to create a vibrant representation of turkey feathers.

Dear Families,
Thank you to the Belvo family for donating mini-pumpkins to us so that we could paint them with our Pre-Kindergarten buddies! Your children are amazing with their buddies! I love to see them turn into compassionate leaders to them!

Next Thursday, the students will need to bring in their books from their book reports. They should be finished by then too. In class, students will write their book report. So there is no preparation for them to do other than finishing their book. 

I will be out on Friday of next week. My husband and I are going to Missoula to see our son. Friday Folders will come home on Monday. I may be sending out a newsletter on Thursday, if I get the time to do it.

Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians are researching a saint and learning about our Creator’s Eternal Law. We learned about God giving us reason, natural law and moral law. We discussed various situations which we would have to use our reason to determine
Language – For reading, we are continuing to read My Father’s Dragon as a class, analyzing vocabulary, characters and plot. In writing, we focused on Grammar of writing four kinds of sentences as well as writing a solid paragraph to summarize what we read in from our reading book. Spelling this week was the long i sound with: igh, i-C-e, ie

Spanish – Una nota de Señora Anna-IThis week, we worked on writing and drawing a story in Spanish. We are using the greetings vocabulary we have learned in our stories. We also watched videos of different people greeting each other for inspiration!
Physical Education – This week in PE we. . .reviewed the overhand throw, practiced throwing to a partner, and played a game called “BOOM CITY.”

Music – This week we actively listened in the exercise “Match the Melody,” wrote a spooky story utilizing sound effects, and improvised in the song “Cheki Morena.”

Dear Families,
In religion, your children are researching and creating a Power Point presentation about a saint of their choice. It will be presented to the rest of the class on November 1 – All Saint’s Day! They are also beginning chapter two of our religion books focusing on Eternal Truth given to us by God, our Creator. So, we used our observation skills to see the beauty of that Creation in our journals. We drew the littlest to the biggest that we saw outside. We discovered the tiniest of details that God made for us today! Then they thanked God in their journals for it! What a fun way to end the week!

Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians made our class goal of collecting over 100 pet care items! They earned some free time yesterday! We finished chapter one of our religion books on Truth.

Language – For reading, we are continuing to read My Father’s Dragon as a class, analyzing vocabulary, characters and plot. In writing, we wrote about our mythical creatures and wrote a friendly letter, trying to convince you, their parents, to get a baby dragon! Spelling this week was the long a sound with: a, ai and ay.

Math – Mathematicians took a chapter 1 test and are reviewing all of our multiplication facts because we are about to begin long multiplication! Please work on this at home!

Science – Scientists finished on our collaborative mystical creature from the material we have in the school.

Social Studies – We are learning about longitude and latitude on maps

Spanish – Una nota de Señora Anna-In Spanish this week, we sang a greetings song called Hola Amigo and watched videos of people greeting each other in different settings. We also built our own bingo cards using greeting vocabulary!

Art – Observational Scarecrow Drawing Lesson – Students observed a real scarecrow and learned to draw it step-by-step, focusing on basic shapes and details.

Physical Education – The 3-5 grades learned about the 5 components of fitness and participated in the fall Fitness Gram test that included the pacer, curl-ups, push-ups and sit and reach.
