Fabulous Fourth Grade Newsletter – December 8, 2023 Edition

Dear Families, December 8, 2023

Thank you to all the parents that came in to help with dissecting the salmon creating salmon prints. The students learned so much. Special thanks to Libby Stark for researching, making numerous calls, getting the salmon, storing them and bringing them in! You’re incredible! We are still on for Wednesday’s salmon/Christmas feast! (December 13th at 11:00) We would love to have as many parents join us! Sign up here if you would like to bring something. If you don’t want to make anything, then you are welcome to bring plates, napkins or juice. Please list it on the sign up here: Go here to sign up for parent volunteers and celebration time.

We had a wonderful time decorating gingerbread houses with our buddies today too!

Parent sign ups: Here is a Sign Up for volunteering on Tuesday or Thursday mornings for math centers. Also, here is a link for the Weekends with Pebbles Sign up!

Blessings,

Paula A. Martin-Zender

Academics

Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians dove into Advent and preparing for Reconciliation which will be on Monday.
Language – Fourth grade readers continued small groups on one of these books: Freckle Juice; Sarah, Plain and Tall; Whipping Boy; or War with Grandpa. We started our book report presentations this week. We also are working on a surprise that you’ll get later! In spelling, we focused on the r-controlled ir and ur sounds.
Math – Mathematicians began learning about division and remainders. We are working with the conceptual understanding of it and then will learn various ways of calculating the quotients. If students do not know their multiplication and division facts by now, it is much harder for them. So, please support your child by testing him/her on these facts daily!
Science – We are having fun learning about salmon and their habitats.

Social Studies – This week, students learned about the local economy and how supply and demand works.

Wednesday, December 13 – Fourth Salmon and Christmas Feast with Parents – 11:00 am set up and 11:30am is the feast with the students! Sign up here to come and bring a salmon and/or Christmas dish!

Thursday, December 14 – Christmas Program 6:30 doors open; begin at 7:00

Friday, December 15 – Mass (dress uniform) & early release (11:45)

December 16 – January 1 – Christmas Break

Specialists

Spanish – Una nota de Señora Anna-This week in Spanish, we learned about Christmas traditions in various Spanish speaking countries. We also played a game to practice the geography we learned last week!
Music – This week in music class we reviewed syncopated rhythms and played 4 Corners to practice. We played along with different instruments to “Overture” from the Nutcracker. Finally, we practiced Ave Maria for the school Christmas Program.

Art – Students will demonstrate an understanding of values and colors by creating a snowman artwork, emphasizing the use of shading and color harmony.
