Fabulous Fourth Grade Newsletter – April 24, 2026 Edition

April 24, 2026

Dear Families,

Spring is here! We are excited for the Fun Run on Tuesday! Get the pledges in!

We will also be celebrating the May Crowning of Mary on Friday. Students are to bring one flower and their rosary if they have it. I have plenty here in the classroom so they can borrow one. We will be saying a decade of the rosary after Mass in celebration of the month of Mary which is May.

Our class celebrated Earth Day by looking through multiple classrooms’ garbages and seeing what we throw away instead of recycling or composting. Then we lead the “Procession of Species” at the assembly on Thursday afternoon, praying St. Francis’ Canticle of Creatures. Your children made posters for it. They are now outside our classroom. So if you’re in the school, be sure to check them out!

Blessings,

Paula A. Martin-Zender

Academics

Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians prepared for celebrating Earth Day and God’s Creation by making posters, etc.
Language – We are having fun diving into Shiloh as a full class, discussing vocabulary and the nuances of this great book! Spelling focused on Unit 28 which was learning about the suffixes -less and -ful. For writing, we are writing the first paragraph of our five-paragraph essay on our favorite pet.
Math – Fourth grade mathematicians finished a chapter on multiplying fractions with our Ch. 12 test

Science – These scientists learned about our earth and what we can do to help God’s Creation. We also experimented with making paper airplanes.

Social Studies – We are learning about Washingtonians lives of today, celebrating the diversity of our state.

Specialists

Art – Fourth grade students completed their sculptures by adding detailed decorations and texture, thoughtfully refining their work. They carefully selected colors and combinations to enhance meaning, balance, and overall artistic expression.

Spanish – We reviewed the different areas or a house, such as: la cocina, la sala, el baño y la recámara.
Music – This week in music we are learning to play C7 and F chords on the ukulele and practicing smooth transitions between chords, dancing the Texas folk song Billy Billy, working with partners and taking turns creating movements, and finally we are listening to music by Edvard Grieg and discussing elements such as tempo, dynamics, instrumentation, mood, and articulation.

Physical Education – This week in PE, we kicked off our gymnastics unit! Students got moving with a fun Swork It warm-up video—it’s free and easy to try at home with the whole family. We also practiced traveling across the mat, learned different types of rolls, kicks and cartwheels and explored individual balance skills.

Library – This week we read  Parrotfish has a Superpower.  Sorry to all the families whose kids may be grossed out about those pretty white beaches now due to Parrotfish’s superpower, haha.  To look at the story or other library activities, check out librarypage.
