Happy New Year! We had a wonderful Mass that some of us had roles in! All of the students did a great job! Thank you for any support you did from home, parents!
Both Mrs. Scarlett and I are very appreciative of all the cards and gifts we received from you and your children for Christmas!

I count it a privilege to teach your children as I’ve been taking on more teaching responsibilities. It has been amazing to see the daily growth in the students as they’ve been learning long division this last week! We wrapped up our science unit on Waves of Sound and our precious learners took a test today on all they’ve learned. I could tell they were confident in their answers on the assessment. I am looking forward to instructing the students for the rest of the month. Thank you for your support!

Academics
Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians practiced for our Mass on Monday and Thursday with Mrs. MZ and with Mrs. Roland. The rest of the time, we used the Second Step program to learn about balancing our thinking brain and our emotions. We also spent a day coming up with a “Big” goal to improve our minds, which is one of the three tenants of Catholic education, educating our “Mind, Body and Spirit.”
Language – Fourth grade readers are analyzing a book in a small group. These are the books we are currently reading: Freckle Juice; The Whipping Boy; Stone Fox; and The Castle in the Attic. We are analyzing, preparing for, speaking about and writing about vocabulary words, character development and plot. In Spelling, students focused on Unit 16 – qu words. In grammar, students focused on plural and singular nouns, singular possessive nouns and finally plural possessive nouns.
Math – Mathematicians learning long division with a remainder up to dividing three-digits by one-digit. Keep practicing facts!
Science – Scientists continued a Sound unit and took the final test today.
Social Studies – Historians are reading and discussing that trappers and traders came from Europe first, to trap and trade beavers for the European’s early 1800’s stylish beaver hats. Later, pioneers began to come from the east to settle in Washington.
Every Wednesday – 2:00 dismissal and casual dress uniform
Friday, January 17 – Mass day – Dress uniform.
Monday, January 20 – No school – MLK jr Day

Specialists
Spanish – We completed a craft of Our Lady of Guadalupe and read the book Olivia to begin learning daily routines.
Library/Technology – This week in library we read The Girl Who Heard the Music. We then worked on the next page of our class books. It’s exciting to see how your kids writing is progressing.
