Service hours reminder: 8th graders need to complete 12 service hours each semester and why not start early? Make sure to keep an eye of for opportunities.
Tis the season to sign up for sacramental preparations. If your child is Catholic and is not yet confirmed, consider signing up for confirmation classes ASAP so that the gift of confirmation may be received! If your child and/or you are not Catholic and would like to inquire about becoming Catholic, now is the time for that too!
I invite you to carefully consider the next sacramental steps for your child. If you would like to learn more, please reach out to Daniel Prenosil (daniel@assumption.org). Baby Sherwood is due in a little less than 2 weeks and you may be interested to know my plan for when he arrives. I plan to take 4 weeks of leave starting when my wife begins labor. Fortunately, Mrs. Martin-Zender has agreed to return to fill in for me during this time. She will be the main point of contact for those weeks and will elevate things to me as necessary. Prayers for our preparation and a safe delivery are greatly appreciated!

This week we took a quiz on simplifying fractions and converting fractions to decimals, then back to fractions.
Next week, we will be reviewing operations on fractions to get ourselves ready for solving algebraic equations.

PE (Coach Eager)
This week we talked about what great sportsmanship looks like in action. Students practiced good sportsmanship while playing Mushroom Ball and the ever-popular recess game, Gaga Ball. Heads up: next week we’ll be tackling the FitnessGram One-Mile Run and Curl-Up tests!
Orchestra (Mrs. Varon)
This week in Orchestra, we are:
- Completing Orchestra Partner Instrument Tour Part 2, where student “coaches” teach new musicians how to safely handle their instruments, use rest and playing positions, the names of the open strings, and all about the bow, while practicing open strings and playing alongside an advanced part
- Reviewing tuning procedures to build independence and accuracy
Choir (Mrs. Morton)
This week in choir we are working on hymns for mass including “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence” sung with a single sustained drone note in the organ as an accompaniment. We have also started working on a song in Latin called “Cantate Domino” from the Baroque era.
Art Elective (Mrs. Santos)
This week, students continued developing their 7 Elements of Art Challenge artwork. They transferred their sketches onto their final paper and used Sharpie to add details, lines, textures, and contrast while strengthening the seven Elements of Art.
Band (Mrs. Creech)
ELA/Literature (Ms. Zech)
In ELA/literature, students received their new novels, The Running Dream, established purposes for their reading, took notes based In ELA/literature, students discussed author’s impact within Book Clubs, worked on choosing the best coordinating conjunction in sentence-building, were introduced to coordinating vs. correlative conjunctions, and focused on writing effective hooks in Writer’s Workshop.

Next in ELA/literature, students will complete their reading MAP test, work on sentence variety in Writer’s Workshop, and turn their note-taking focus towards characterization from The Running Dream.
Algebra (Mrs. McEathron)
This week students worked on a project/presentation of patterns and algebraic rules. We started solving one & two step linear equations (chp 2 in the textbook). A reminder that I am available during study hall or lunch daily, if students need extra help.
Engineering Elective (Mr. Sherwood)
This week in Engineering, we began the initial design process by designing our project execution plan. Students will abide by this plan as they work to design, text and implement their bridges in the coming weeks.
Spanish (Mrs. Santos)
¡Hola familias! ¡Vamos a jugar y vamos a recordar! Our classroom was full of movement as students practiced Spanish through games, actions, and a fun story about Lola, a little spider! Students reviewed the days of the week, months, and colors while learning the phrases “Yo soy,” “Me llamo,” “Hay,” “¡Qué lindo!” and “¡Qué bello!” We also practiced familiar action words such as caminar, escribir, lanzar, and organizar through playful activities.
