Content: During the school year we will focus on our faith as well as our prayer life through personal prayer, group prayer, art, and liturgies at Mass and prayer services.

We will also look at how our Christian faith affects our relationships and responsibilities to one another. Knowledge of the history of the Catholic Church from the time of Jesus is an essential element of our eighth-grade year. Forming Christian morality after Jesus’ example is our call and is taught by Fr. Moore.

Service: We have chosen a class service project from the Corporal Works of Mercy (feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, bury the dead). This year we will be working at the We Grow Community Garden. I will provide more details in the coming weeks.

Service Hours: 18 service hours are required each semester. These must be unpaid hours. I have provided a tracking sheet for the students on which they are to keep a list. They must have their parents or supervisors sign the list as the hours are completed and turn it in to the teacher before the last week of the semester. They may also turn it in early, if they wish. *Do not save your service hours until the end of each semester. Make this activity one that is thoughtful and intentional.

Christmas Play: It is the tradition at Assumption to have the eighth graders write and perform the Christmas play. We will be working on this starting mid-November. This will be completed in school. This all-school event will the evening of December 15th this year. More details will be provided closer to the event.
