Homework: Write at least one page of your biography of the person whom you interviewed for the Legacy Project (LP). This page is due tomorrow. Do not send it to me. I will check your laptops tomorrow.
Remember: The rough draft is due on April 2, and we will use all of our ELA blocks to write it. If you type slowly, or if you want me to edit it rather than a peer, you can do more pages at home and turn it in before April 2.
Also, I have edited all the AUTOBIOgraphies that have been sent to me. They are in the folder of the black bin with all the LP materials. You are welcome to take your edited autobiography and go over it with me if you have any questions. The due date for the FINAL draft is due on May 15. You will write the final draft on your own, but as I have said, I will help you if you need any writing tips, suggestions, or clarifications. The tips/suggestions/clarifications must obviously be made before May 15.
KEEP your rough drafts in the folder that goes in the black bin. I need your rough drafts as well as your final drafts when I grade all the papers. Thank you!

- Cornell Notes Ch. 8 due tomorrow. If you forgot the Frederick Douglass book that I told you to take home, don’t worry! That book is all over the internet: Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, an American slave If you forgot your lit comp notebook, just write your Cornell Notes on a piece of paper, put your name and date on it, write ‘Ch. 8,’ and write your notes on paper. There is always a solution to a problem. š
- Family Tree final draft due Thursday, 2/5. This was an absolute shock to some students. That is because they do not check the Legacy Project due date paper I handed out before January. I would advise you to look over the Legacy Project packet, review the due date sheet, and the look at the calendars that are in the packet. Plan ahead! I offered adhesive labels and poster paper to students who wanted to use those materials to create their family trees. Just go to Easy PeelĀ® Address Labels with Sure FeedĀ® 5160 | Avery and start an account with your email address (scroll to the bottom of the webpage). Then, you can type in the names (and dates of your ancestors if possible) onto the labels. Print the labels, cut them out, arrange them on your poster paper, draw the lines, and stick the labels on the poster where you want them. I strongly suggest that you NOT peel them first, as you may want to maneuver the labels beforehand. There is also the option of using the templates online that I sent quite some time ago. There will be many versions of family trees, but all versions must be neat and professional looking. Please, students, be sure to put a title on it. “The Wolf-Twining Family Tree” would be an example of a title.

January 8-9, 2026
This is just a reminder that the Cornell Notes 2026 version for Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass are due today. The intention was that there would be class time given to do it, but it was hard to get through the review, so it became homework. (Why was my class SO chatty? Idk.) I neglected to email you about it yesterday, but I told you to take your books home. If you have not finished your notes, then bring them on Monday.
Have a great weekend!

December 17, 2025
Here is your homework:
- “Thank you, Ma’am” worksheet due Friday (literature)
- Bring clothes/sandals for your character (Christmas Program). Bring them in the morning when you come to school. You can leave them in the classroom and use them when you come back tomorrow night.
- Tomorrow we will have our Secret Santa thing before lunch time. Bring the present if you are participating.
- Tomorrow night: Be in the 8th grade classroom at 5:45 so we can get ready, set up the church with the props, and then you can go to your music teacher. Wear black/dark clothes if you need to wear them under your costume. Otherwise, if you have another outfit for your musical number, you can change between scenes. Girls, bring a hair tie of some sort so you can put your hair back. Don’t be nervous! You will be fabulous!
P.S. Kate, the paintings are great!
December 16, 2025
1. Red & Green Day tomorrow. If you want to just wear jeans or casual uniform, please do so!
2. Go online and with your parents’ help, download an app that will transcribe your voice recording into a written transcript. Search for a free app or do a Zoom and it will create a transcript for you. Try an app to see if it will work for you and your family. Write down which app your family chooses: due Thursday. This is for the interview that you will do for the Legacy Project. Remember, it would be more natural for you to have a casually flowing conversation rather than having one that stops after each question so you can write down answers. If you record your convo on your phone, via Zoom, or with an iPad, for example, you can upload it and have it transcribed. Then you can use the transcription when you write the autobiography. Test it out first before you do the actual interview! Some of you will see your family member during Christmas break, so test it out first. I hope it works! Please let me know what works best for you and your fam!
Here are some options that I found online, though I have not tried them myself:
Transcribe Audio to Text Online | Fast & Accurate Tool (pdfsimpli.com)
Transcribe Audio and Video to Text | TurboScribe

- Book report due 12/12. Sci-Fi or Fantasy, Ppt or 5 paragraph essay. Ppt: @ least 5 slides w/one paragraph per slide. Include images and a bibliography on a separate slide. This is my favorite website for all things MLA: MLA Formatting and Style Guide – Purdue OWLĀ® – Purdue University Check out their info on how to do a bibliography.
- If you are involved in the Christmas Play (only Ilse and Gavin are not since they won’t be here), read over the play and KNOW YOUR LINES and CUES!!! I’ll resend the script soon. There isn’t a lot of homework in my classes, so practice your lines and memorize your cues.

Cheers!

- Study for the Latin II, Lesson 6 test that will be given tomorrow.
- Book Report due 12/12. That’s this Friday. Plan accordingly.
- Finish and print the final draft of your poem. If you still need help with it, see me tomorrow during study hall and I will help you! Also, if you don’t have a printer, you can email it to me. Just label it with your first and last name, Grade 8, and Assumption Catholic School. Make a title for your poem.
- Read for your reading log. The next one is due on December 15. Some students turned in their reading log that was due today, but some didn’t. š
December 4, 2025
Here is your homework which is due tomorrow:
- Finish reading “Un Senor Muy Viejo…” and do Cornell notes.
- Finish the ELA worksheet about transitive and intransitive verbs.
Quite a few of you finished the worksheet and the reading/Cornell notes in class. Some of you used your study hall time or your lunch time to do that. A few of you asked me questions about the homework. Great job! Always ask me questions about schoolwork! I can help you from the classroom, but I can’t help you once you get home. Even if you don’t know the answer, ask me the next day and I will still help you. It’s kind of like…my job. š
December 3, 2025
- ELA book page 139. #12-21. Just write the verb and whether it is transitive or intransitive. You don’t have to write the whole sentence (but it helps).
- Latin II, page 120, 6D
- Plan ahead for the book report due on 12/12.
Hello parents,
Many of the students are interested in doing a gift exchange for Christmas. I don’t have an issue with it, but I would like it to be optional so no one should feel obligated to participate. If parents are okay with this, I will put out a sign-up sheet in the classroom so students can sign up to participate. Parents, please let me know if you do NOT want your child to participate.
It looks like this:
- Students sign up
- I put names in a hat so students can pick a name randomly
- Make/buy a gift for that person that is under $10
- Exchange gifts on the night of the Christmas program or the day before school lets out for Christmas break
(I am 100% sure that if I have this wrong, someone WILL tell me!)
December 2, 2025
- Book report due 12/12
- Latin II, 6A, pg. 117
December 1, 2025
- Book report due 12/12. Genre: Sci-fi/fantasy. Ppt or 5-paragraph essay. For those of you who rush your book reports and do them the night before, I would suggest that you do a little bit each night until you are done. Time management is a life skill you should start practicing when you’re young. Less stress…
- Latin II, 6C, pg. 119.
- If you have lines in the Christmas play that you need to memorize, please do that. 10 minutes/night should be a good start. The Christmas Program is on 12/18. You do the math… š¬ I’m not panicking!
- For those who forgot to turn in the reading log today, please bring it tomorrow. It must be signed by a parent.
- Finish reading “The Monkey’s Paw” and write a question or a point that you would like to bring up in lit circles tomorrow.

- Since the Human Food Chain went longer than expected, you do not have a reading assignment for literature tonight. However, we will have lit circles tomorrow to discuss what you read yesterday. You might want to freshen up and do a quick review of what you read. The Witch of Blackbird Pond, The Lottery, The Necklace, and The Hitchhiker are the stories that were read.
- We have a BIG history test tomorrow. If you brought your paper textbook home, the pages covered are 2-48. The test will be on Topic 1: Early Americas and European Exploration. The lessons covered are Lesson 1-4. Lesson 1 begins on page 7, Lesson 2 begins on page 14, Lesson 3 begins on page 27, and Lesson 4 begins on page 39. We have had two days of review in class, but this test covers a LOT, so please study!!!
- Thanks to everyone who brought food, toiletries, blankets, and other items for the Human Food Chain.
- HUGE thanks to Mrs. Neutzmann. She bought an entire set (27) of books for the class! Her generosity is SO appreciated!!!

November 12, 2025
Hello 8th graders & parents,
Note: There are so many activities that are happening with individual students. Parents, if your child is sick or practicing for a major event like a sports tournament or a dance recital, please let me know. I can always excuse them from an assignment and pray that they do really well with their next assignments. The last thing I want is a stressed out 8th graders staying up until midnight because they have to practice, inhale some food, and stay up late to do homework. I am mean, but I am not unreasonable. š Please email me if you want your child to be excused from an assignment or if you want your child to have an extension on an assignment. The request has to come from a parent- not from a student. Thank you!
8th graders, here is your homework tonight:
- 2nd November reading log due 11/17. Look at how many days there are left until 11/17. How many pages do you have to read each day until 11/17? Plan ahead! Reading for lit class counts!
- Latin II, 5A, pg. 113. If you did not finish this during study hall then it is homework.
- Finish reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond Ch. 15-16, The Hitchhiker, or The Necklace if you did not finish in class. Do Cornell notes. (WBBP: one set of Cornell notes.)
We are accepting food donations for Hope House. Hope House has put out a special request for pet food. This is the first time I have ever heard of them asking for pet food, so the needs are high. This is optional, but please donate what you can. As a friendly competition, the 3rd floor is trying to beat the 2nd floor in terms of how many food items are brought in. I don’t know what the prize is. Maybe the prize is tangible, but the other prize is knowing that you are helping our community members. Thank you!
November 5, 2025

The notes should be thorough! If you skimp on your notes tonight, you will not receive full credit tomorrow. Be warned! š”
- Also, some of you are doing a fabulous job on your notes. You are headed straight for the AP classes in high school, and you’ll probably get a Ph.D. later. I’m so proud of you. š¤©

If you are missing that grade, it is because I am giving you an extra day to turn your picture in. Please turn it in on Monday and I will grade you then. If you are not satisfied with your Poorly Drawn Pets grade, it may be that I gave you specific directions in class (fill in the background, add details, don’t scribble, redo it, etc.), but you did not follow directions. You may also redo the picture and turn it in for full credit on Monday. This may have seemed frivolous and comical to some, but remember that we are doing this for a good cause.
