Fabulous Fourth Grade Newsletter

Dear Families,

We have finished week two of the MAP testing, and your children did great! There are few that will need to make up some of the tests next week but for the most part, we are done until the spring. (There will be no winter MAP test this year.)

Book reports were very entertaining and other’s got new ideas on what they would like to read. We also finished up on creating our mythical creatures as well as writing

a collaborative story about them. Very creative!

The field trip set for November 30th has been moved to Cornwall Park due to construction at Maritime Heritage Park. There is a new permission slip in today’s Friday Folder due to this. Please fill out the first page and send it back in by next week. Please, also sign up to a chaperone for it, if you would like to, on the permission slip.

I will need math volunteers starting October 10th. I will need parents to run a center in the hall for an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Here is a Sign Up for volunteers. Thank you for your support!

Here is a link for the Weekends with Pebbles Sign up!

Blessings,

Paula Martin-Zender

Academics

Religion – Fourth Grade Theologians continued the Second Step curriculum of meeting a class goal of bringing in 100 pet care things for an animal shelter to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday. We dove into our new religion books as well as went to adoration for the first time this year.

Language – For reading, we began My Father’s Dragon as a class, analyzing vocabulary, characters and plot. In writing, we wrote about our mythical creatures. No spelling this week due to MAP testing. The grammar’s focus was on nouns.

Math – Mathematicians reviewed addition and subtraction up to six digits.

Science – Scientists worked on our collaborative mystical creature from the material we have in the school. Scroll down for the pictures of the fabulous mythical creatures!

Social Studies – We are looking at various kinds of maps and how they work and compared them to a globe.

Wednesday, October 4 – St. Francis of Assisi Animal Blessing – bring your animals to be blessed with Pebbles!

Friday, October 6 – School Mass – dress uniform

Specialists

Music –  This week in music class we played Poison Rhythm and 4 Corners to practice our new learned rhythm. We played percussion instruments and we began learning a two-part singing song called “Old Joe Clark.”

Spanish – Una nota de Señora Anna-This week we practiced greetings. We compared greetings from many different people and places while adding to our Spanish notebooks.

Art – Students learned about Frida Kahlo and the life and work of Diego Rivera, her husband, explored his mural art, and started an artwork inspired by the Flower Seller painting.
