  • Invalid: illogical, makes no sense
  • Sound: true, well supported with evidence
  • Unsound: false, unsupported

Fallacies

  • Ad Hominem: Ignoring what someone is saying and insulting them instead
  • Appeal to Emotion: Attempting to evoke sympathy so someone will agree with you
  • Wishful Thinking: Assuming something is true without evidence
  • Red Herring: Changing the topic and distracting someone
  • False Dichotomy: Lie that there are only two options when there are many
  • Slippery Slope: Responding to a small problem with a giant exaggeration
  • Straw Man: Misrepresenting your opponent’s original argument
  • Faulty Analogy: Depending the conclusion of an argument on a weak analogy
  • Bandwagon: Arguing that many people agree with an argument, therefore it is true
