Good afternoon! We had an incredible first three days! I love the beginning of the year, and this group is really getting me excited about the year ahead. So far this week, we have spent time talking about expectations and even more building our classroom community or as I call it, our “Classroom Family”. I’m huge on relationships, both the relationship between myself and the students, and the relationships I build with you, the families, who are their first educators.

Yesterday was the “Third Day of Third Grade” and we got together with the other class to celebrate. As mentioned to many of you, Mrs. Clark and I are working closely together and I anticipate us mixing the kids quite frequently this year, in addition to combining them for many things. They did a fun Scoot game, reviewing second grade concepts, and even had an extra third recess.

Technology Agreements -Students came up with their own norms on Friday and I’ve put them into our class contracts for them to sign. In addition, please return the parent form that was sent home on Thursday. Once I have these two documents, students will be receiving their Chromebooks, which will stay at school for third graders.
Monthly Book Reports -I’ll talk more about this at Curriculum Night but for the mean time, please talk with your child about a book that he/she might be interested in reading for our September book reports. They will also have time to select one from school, either from my classroom or the school library if needed. (This section will always be in our weekly newsletter for you to know where they should be in the process.)
Curriculum Night – Please make sure that at least one parent attends Thursday, September 10th at 6:30pm. This is a very important evening to learn about the year, see where your children spend the majority of their day, and ask questions. I’m looking forward to it!
Friday Folders -I did not send this home yesterday, but typically you will find a red folder in your child’s backpack every Friday. Please look over the work, your child’s goal, and in the future you will see reports for missing work. Reports will be sent home every week. Sign the parent page and send back with your child on Monday. Thank you!
Agendas – Please check your child’s agenda every single night. Students write in this each morning, and homework is always clear, and located in the folder behind the agenda.
Homework -Typically in third grade your child will have TWO items to complete each evening, in addition to 20 minutes of reading. I never want the students spending more than 45 minutes each evening on homework, so if that is the case, please write a note to me in his/her agenda.

Curriculum Night -Thursday, September 10th.
MAP Testing -Begins Monday, September 14th. Please do not make appointments during the mornings of the two weeks.
Book Report Books -approval by Tuesday, September 8th.
