In this post you will be able to read about what we are doing in the middle school math classes this week. Please look for video supports for you and your student. We will have a new post each week to inform you about our week.
Wednesday, September 11th at 6 pm is CURRICULUM NIGHT. Please come to room 210 (Mrs. VonFeldt’s room) to visit with the math teachers and learn about math classes this year.
6th Grade Math – Mrs. VonFeldt & Mrs. Creech
The sixth graders have started the year learning about negative integers. So far, they are all doing great! Ask them about some real-life uses of negatives. The test will be this Wednesday. In Module 2, we will extend our study to rational numbers, which means, we will be comparing fractions and decimals as well as whole numbers.
7th Grade Math – Mrs. VonFeldt
This week, in seventh grade math, we have been finding unit rates that involve fractions. The most difficult part is to properly order the numerator and denominator to get the appropriate units. See the video below for some extra help. We have also graphed proportional relationships. Proportional relationships have a graph that is a straight line and begins at the origin. The test for Module 1 will be next week.
8th Grade Math – Mrs. Evans
This week in eighth grade math we will continue to review how we use rational numbers effectively. We shall practice adding and subtracting fractions, mixed numbers and decimals. We will then practice using the proper order of operations. Being able to fluently and effectively use rational numbers will allow us to apply new lessons this year! Here is a picture that helps us see all the numbers that fall into the “rational number” category.

Algebra – Mrs. VonFeldt
We have started off the year with some review on writing and simplifying expressions. This week the students are taking a pattern and generalizing with variable expressions. Come see their colorful posters on curriculum night! I look forward to meeting with you.
