Music News ~ March 2-6

Kindergarten: This week, kindergarten students are exploring beat and rhythm with the song and game Tisket A Tasket. They are also experiencing Irish music with the fiddle tune Connaughtman’s Rambles and dancing a simple Irish jig.

1st Grade: This week, students are singing, moving and creating new verses to the song When I Was One. They are also learning the new Solfege syllable La, and exploring its relationship to the syllables sol and mi.

2nd Grade: This week, students are exploring some Orff instrument improvisation with It’s Raining It’s Pouring and singing with expression in the songs Cat Came Back and Lollipop Tree. They are also reviewing the names of the lines and spaces on the music staff.

3rd Grade: This week, students are reading and playing sixteenth note rhythms with the song Dinah. They are also singing expressively with the song Donkey Riding and learning the movements that accompany the song to create a partner signing game.

4th Grade: This week, students are reviewing musical terms and composers they have learned this year with the song Categories. They are also putting together the xylophone part with the recorder melody they are learning for the ensemble Dix Ans.

Orchestra: This week, students are starting a new 4 part piece called Appalachian Hymn. They are also learning technical aspects of playing on their lower strings, and learning the note names for G string notes. Violin and viola players are continuing to strengthen their 4th  fingers.
