Kindergarten: This week, students are getting introduced to the difference between beat and rhythm and creating a visual representation of both with craft sticks. They are also singing solos and practicing matching pitch with the game song Kangaroo.
1st Grade: This week, students are practicing singing sol-mi singing patterns and hand symbols and reading eighth and quarter note rhythm patterns. They are also adding instruments to the song Aikendrum, and keeping a steady beat while playing partner game song Wishy Washy Wee.
2nd Grade: This week, students are reviewing rondo form and improvising answers to a musical question. They are working on the song The Cat Came Back, and are reading in partners through all 5 verses and discussing the story of the song. They are also practicing naming the names of the lines and spaces on the music staff.
3rd Grade: This week, students are continuing to reinforce and experience the 3/4 time signature and learning a challenging partner stick game for the Maori song E Papa. They are also singing expressively and learning the terms staccato and legato while singing the song Donkey Riding.
4th Grade: This week, students are completing a rhythmic dictation with all of their learned rhythms from this year. They are also playing the notes BAG on their recorders, and adding more instrumental parts to the ensemble piece we are working on in class using recorders, xylophones, and non-pitched percussion.
Orchestra: This week, students are taking a playing test for Ode to Joy. They are also getting new music for Appalachian Hymn. Students can find their instrument in the videos below to help them with their homework this week, and in their learning of the new piece.
