Our dedicated team\u2014Mrs. Jill VonFeldt, Mrs. Karen Evans, and Mr. Eli Sherwood\u2014are ready to guide students through a fun and challenging journey in mathematics. Mrs. VonFeldt and Mrs. Evans will be co-teaching their math sections to provide extra support and collaboration in the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"843\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our program includes two sections each of sixth and seventh grade math. Eighth grade students will be enrolled in either 8th Grade Math or Algebra, depending on their placement. Below, you\u2019ll find a detailed overview of the topics covered at each grade level, followed by important class policies and general information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"1139\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To keep you in the loop, we\u2019ll be posting a <strong data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"906\">weekly update<\/strong> called the <strong data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"926\">POST<\/strong>. Each week\u2019s POST will include classroom highlights, upcoming topics, and helpful resources to support learning at home. Jill VonFeldt and Karen Evans (Teachers)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Textbook: Larson Algebra 1<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Expressions, Equations, and Functions<\/li>\n<li>Solving Linear Equations<\/li>\n<li>Graphing Linear Equations and Functions<\/li>\n<li>Writing Linear Equations<\/li>\n<li>Solving and Graphing Linear Inequalities<\/li>\n<li>Systems of Equations and Inequalities<\/li>\n<li>Exponents and Exponential Functions<\/li>\n<li>Polynomials and Factoring<\/li>\n<li>Quadratic Equations and Functions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>POLICIES AND INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Homework<\/strong><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All homework is expected to be completed as well as possible, and on time.\u00a0 Homework should always be done in pencil.\u00a0 If a student does not understand how to do a problem, they should do their best.\u00a0 Even an incorrect answer requires mental effort that benefits the student.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Mistakes are evidence that we are learning new things.\u00a0\u00a0Homework is reviewed together in class and they will have an opportunity to correct mistakes.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Late Work <\/strong><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It is your child\u2019s responsibility to ask for make-up work and notes when they have been absent from class.\u00a0 Adequate time will be allowed for them to do the make-up work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In general, late work will be accepted but will receive reduced credit.\u00a0 If a student is having difficulty with a topic, they should do their very best to complete the assignment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<em><strong>At the end of chapters or units, all late homework must be turned in if credit is to be given.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Quizzes and Tests<\/strong><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Quizzes may be given mid-chapter to assess the understanding of topics.\u00a0 Tests will be given after each chapter or module.\u00a0 If a student misses the day before a test and returns on test day, they are expected to take the test.\u00a0 If they miss two or more days before a test, special arrangements can be made to take the test at another time.\u00a0 If a student receives the grade of C or less, they can retake the test or quiz again to earn up to half of the lost points.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Extra Help<\/strong><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It is up to your student to seek help when they are not understanding a topic or feel the need for more clarification.\u00a0 We are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> always willing to work with student outside class if needed.\u00a0 If they are looking for more clarification or practice, their ixl.com account provides some opportunities for this.\u00a0\u00a0 They can ask family or friends for help at any time.\u00a0 We shall <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">be making weekly posts to the Assumption website middle school math page with information and resources directly related to the topics we are studying.\u00a0 Please encourage your students to visit the posts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Distance Learning (As needed)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We will be using MS 365 TEAMS, email and ZOOM to interface with students during any distance learning portions of the year.\u00a0 Your students should contact their teacher either in TEAMS or by email if they need help.\u00a0 ZOOM meetings will be used to do attendance and for some lessons and help sessions.\u00a0 Appropriate behavior in ZOOM is expected of all students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Middle School Math Classes We\u2019re excited to kick off an incredible year of learning and growth in math!
