March on to Mastering Math this Month!

**6th Grade – Section A – Mrs. VonFeldt **

This week we continue to study algebraic expressions. We will learn how to use the distributive property and how to recognize equivalent expressions. To practice what they have learned, the students will create a pennant that deomonstrates the concepts of combining like terms and evaluating expressions. There will be a test on Chapter 7 on Friday.

**6th Grade – Section B – Mrs. Evans**

This week we are continuing to learn about algebraic expressions in Chapter 7. We will learn how to combine like terms and how to tell when two expressions are equivalent. It is a very important time for us to become solid in our use of the proper order of operations and exponents. We will have a test on Chapter 7 on Friday. Here is a link to extra practice in order of operations to help you do well with algebraic expressions:

**Practice with Order of Operations**

**Pre Algebra (7th and 8th Grade) – Mrs. Evans**

Please note that we are trying to become more familiar with the resources available to us to clarify our lessons and we are currently looking at Khan Academy – which is marvelous. Please encourage your students to go to these links and listen to the short lesson.

We continue to work in Module 8 this week and will have a test on it Friday. We began looking at similar shapes and scale drawings. Use the following link to have a look at Khan Academy’s lesson on scale drawings and have a little extra practice.

**Practice Creating Scale Drawings**

Next we have been looking at what we know about triangles and how to draw them given some information – the protractors have been coming in handy! We are happy to know that the three interior angles of any triangle add up to 180 degrees! We also learned about the triangle inequality rule that tells us about the allowed lengths of the sides of triangles. Below is a link to Khan Academy to help you if you have further questions:

**Triangle Inequality Theorem – Allowable Lengths of a Triangle**

Very useful information! This week we will be learning about relationships between angles – adjacent angles, vertical angles, complementary and supplementary angles. Here is a link to practice identifying angles. This will be helpful to prepare for the test on Friday if you have questions.

Take the opportunity to do mental gymnastics every day!

**8th Grade Math – Mr. Pryor**

The 8th grade math class starting chapter 7 on Monday. This chapter consists of combining like terms in algebra and practicing more complicated ways of solving multi-variable equations.

**Algebra – Mrs. VonFeldt**

This week the students solved real-world problems that involved exponential growth and exponential decay. There will be a Chapter 7 test on Wednesday. In Chapter 8, we will be studying polynomials. This is the unit where algebra gets a little more challenging (and a little more fun!). We will begin by modeling polynomial multiplication using algebra tiles. It will be very important for students to keep up on their classwork and homework and ASK QUESTIONS when they need help.
