We love our school!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Kindergarten program at Assumption employs a \u201cwhole child\u201d approach that focuses on the mind, body, and spirit.\u00a0 From the \u201cmind\u201d perspective, we have a strong academic curriculum and that balances play and structure towards learning.\u00a0 From the \u201cbody\u201d perspective, we balance physical exercise with social-emotional learning.\u00a0 From the \u201cspirit\u201d perspective, we embrace our Catholic identity and build a foundation of strong character and ethics in our children.<\/p>\n

Kindergarten is a full-day program, a typical class size ranging from 15 to 22 children. I am a certified teacher. I am a Reading Specialist and have an endorsement in teaching ELL (English Language Learners). We are differentiated from other Kindergarten programs through our innovative philosophy (see graphic), our dedicated faculty, and our amazing parent community that engages heavily in the education of the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

In Kindergarten, we combine our content-rich academic curriculum with a focus on social and emotional learning. We also employ multi-sensory modalities toward teaching to engage all students.<\/p>\n

Learn Through Play<\/h2>\n

Through play, children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.\u00a0\u00a0Keyways that our kindergarteners learn include playing, being with other people, being active, exploring and new experiences, talking to themselves, communicating with others, meeting physical and mental challenges, being shown how to do new things, practicing and repeating skills and having fun.<\/p>\n

A child\u2019s sense of God originates from the warm atmosphere of love and acceptance in the kindergarten environment.\u00a0 Kindergarten students attend school mass weekly. Students are taught from the Children\u2019s Bible and the Stories of God\u2019s Love curriculum.<\/p>\n

We utilize our eighth graders as buddies to our kindergarteners. They sit with us during mass and teach us how to be good stewards of God.<\/p>\n

Academic Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assumption complies with the Seattle Archdiocese curriculum guidelines for kindergarten. Our class follows a daily routine and content is based on monthly themes, with more specific thematic units each week. The curriculum includes flexibility to focus on individual class\/student needs.<\/p>\n

We use the Responsive Classroom approach, which integrates academic and social-emotional skills to create an environment where students can do their best learning.<\/p>\n
