In this week’s newsletter you will read about Growing Great Kids Auction and Gala, no video this week from Mr. Anderson, the volleyball season, February and March Playground Angels, USED UNIFORM SALE, re-enrollment priority and Faith Community Scholarships, the calendar for 2023-24, the saint of the week, employment opportunities, Upcoming events calendar and much more!  Thank you for reading.

Final Week for Priority Re-enrollment

As a current family, you will continue to have priority re-enrollment for next school year through February 28th. If you intend to return next Fall, we urge you to complete your child(ren)’s re-enrollment by then. It will guarantee your spot(s) and save you money- fees go from $275 to $325 on March 1

Some of you have asked about extending the early registration deadline from March 1 to April 1. We are not able to do this because we need to know available space for new families enrolling. However, we will offer refundable registration through June 1st only if your decision to withdraw is financial. Please know we will work with your family if there are financial obstacles after Faith Community Scholarships are awarded this inaugural year. You can email Dayna Dennis or Mr. Anderson with any additional questions.

Re-enrollment and Faith Community Scholarships

Faith Community Scholarship applications are now live on the school’s website at https://school.assumption.org/faith-community-scholarship/ and have been sent home in this week’s Wednesday Envelope as a hard copy. Please fill out the editable pdf online and submit by email to theoffice@assumption.school or complete the paper copy and return it in the Wednesday Envelope on or before March 15th. Decisions will be communicated by Friday, March 31st.

By now, all families should have received an email with the School Admin code to re-enroll for the 2023-2024 school year. If you need additional clarification or would like to review the information about assistance and scholarships, please view this week’s video with the State of the School slides from February 8th or watch the Zoom recording from February 21st including a Q&A with some of our families here.

The passcode is: a@NjPU8t

Calendar for 2023-2024

The calendar for 2023-2024 is now posted to the website (insert link here). One of the things that the teachers and staff have changed for next year is Early Release Days. Instead of one Wednesday per month and 11:45 am dismissal, every Wednesday in 2023-2024 will be a 2 pm dismissal. This will provide the additional time needed for staff development within the regular hours of a normal school day. EDP will be offered starting at 2 pm on those days for parents who need it.

Lenten Information

Lenten Resolution – Daily Mass or Exposition?

If you are looking for a Lenten resolution, have you considered daily Mass? Assumption intentionally schedules two daily Masses each week so that school families can attend before school. Daily Mass on Wednesday and Thursday begins at 7:15 and ends between 7:45 and 7:50. It is a wonderful way to start the day, and to reconnect with God in the middle of the week.

You might also consider praying with the Blessed Sacrament. Each Wednesday, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar following daily Mass (7:45 a.m.), and we already have school parents who will drop by for prayer after dropping off their kids. This could be a powerful devotion to develop during Lent.

*Rice Bowls for Catholic charities are in today’s Wednesday Envelope.

Reminder to get your Pizza Order Form into the office by Friday!

PIZZA DAY is coming on Monday, February 27th!!

Job postings are now live

Three vacancies for next school year have been posted to the school’s website. Please refer people to this page for application information and job descriptions. The three postings include: Kindergarten, Spanish K-5, and Library Media Specialist. LINK HERE to the school’s webpage.

WALKING WITH THE SAINTS

We hope that you will enjoy learning about how saints are a great example of holiness, strength, and courage one day at a time. Below is a description of a saint but his/her name is withheld. See if you can guess who the saint is and get your name put in for a prize drawing.

Last week: St. Valentine  (No entries came to the office)

New Saint: He was bishop of Smyrna, disciple of Saint John the Apostle and friend of Saint Ignatius of Antioch and was a revered Christian leader during the first half of the second century.

The Asia Minor Churches recognized his leadership by choosing this holy man as a representative to discuss with Pope Anicetus the date of the Easter celebration in Rome—a major controversy in the early Church.

Only one of the many letters written by him has been preserved, the one he wrote to the Church of Philippi in Macedonia.

At 86, this early saint was led into the crowded Smyrna stadium to be burned alive. The flames did not harm him, and he was finally killed by a dagger. The centurion soldier ordered the saint’s body burned. The “Acts” of his martyrdom are the earliest preserved, and fully reliable account of a Christian martyr’s death. He died in 155.
