Blessing of the Animals

All families are welcome to join us on Tuesday, Oct. 5th for the annual Blessing of the Animals in honor of the Feast of St. Francis. Please bring only small animals, no bigger than a large dog. Reptiles and animals not on a leash should be in a cage or terrarium.

We are asking that everyone wear masks and remain with your animal in your own family group. Students without animals should line up with their classes on the perimeter of the traffic loop near the grass or large cross. Find your teacher with the class sign when you arrive. If the traffic loop itself seems full, any open space on the grass will work.

The rolling gates will be closed at 7:30 this morning to set up for the classes and ceremony. Please either park in the parking lot or drop off your child(ren) at the crosswalk nearest the gym.

Faith – Love – Basketball

We need players!

Our 6th annual Holy Hoops 4 on 4 basketball tournament is just around the corner – October 19th – 22nd.   This tournament is FREE, and we are encouraging ALL 5th – 8th grade students to participate.  No basketball experience is necessary.  All players will receive a Holy Hoops t-shirt, the end of event BASH and build life-long memories with teammates and competitors.  Look in today’s Wednesday Envelope for participation forms (COVID protocols are on the second page) and more information.

We need coaches!

We are also looking for Assumption Alumni to help coach! Whether it’s for the whole week or one day, we need YOU! We are able to work around school and sports schedules. This is a wonderful way to give back to your school and also get high school service hours.  Coaches also receive Holy Hoops t-shirts; the music room is open for studying and food will be provided by the Holy Hoops committee.

We need sponsors!

The running of this free community event relies upon support in the form of sponsorships from local families and businesses. Your generous donations go toward purchasing t-shirts for the teams, food and support for our coaches and referees, and prizes for winning teams. Please feel free to pass this onto your employer, friends and family who may want to sponsor.  Our hope is that this event continues to be a long-standing tradition at our school, encouraging teamwork, good sportsmanship and community building.

Let’s continue to make Holy Hoops a tradition that Assumption families can enjoy for years to come! If you have any questions or concerns, contact Lisa Twining at vonskirch@gmail.com

Cross Country is off to a RUNNING start!

We have 16 Middle Schoolers on this year’s team! There have been three meets thus far and yesterday’s meet at Nooksack featured a fast-paced flat course. Two ACS girls placed in the top 15: Stella Wolf (10th) and Daliah Strutz (13th). Our boys overtook Franklin Academy to take first place in the Boys’ Team scoring; this included Taylor Rush (1st), Baynes Machinski (5th), George Streeter (7th), Liam Krzysiek (12th) and Alden Bachmeier (23rd). All of our runners had amazing races and pushed each other to the finish line!

Please come cheer your team on at their next meet on Oct. 7th at 4:15, Lynden High School! Go Eagles!

Revised calendar

We’ve made a correction to the ACS Important Dates 2021-22 calendar for several Fridays in April. The 1st was previously listed as an Early Release Day, which should be a normal school day. Instead, the 15th will be Early Release for Good Friday. April 20th is no longer an early release because Good Friday is.

In addition to the imbedded link, this has also been updated on the website.

Active playground reminder

We are so grateful to our family volunteers for keeping Assumption students safe on the playground! As a reminder, when volunteering at recess, we ask that you are scanning the field and parking lot at all times and aware of students playing. To that end, please refrain from using your cell phone and/or having long chats with other parents, both of which may distract you from this important job focused on student safety. Thank you!

Playground Angels

We have an ongoing need to keep these safety positions filled. Thank you for your help in keeping recess fun and safe!

Break out the pants, tights and leggings!

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day of September, so we’ll be packing away the shorts and skorts until spring weather returns on March 1st! Please be sure your child(ren) wear appropriate items for the cooler weather according to our Uniform Policy. Thanks, and Happy Fall!

Arrest of a parish volunteer

Sacred Heart and Church of the Assumption issued a statement today about the arrest of a youth ministry volunteer. We wanted to be sure to share this with parents who have had children in our youth group. Click here to read the statement from Fr. Moore and Fr. Ross.

MAP Testing: September 20 – October 15

MAP testing is almost finished for the first group of tests and teachers are finishing their last tests this week. Make-up testing, if needed, will be done later this week and into next week. The students have done a great job so far and the teachers are pleased with their perseverance and effort. Please thank and congratulate them for their hard work.

New School Custodian

We have hired a new custodian! Michael Partlow has done some training this week with Mr. Green and he will be starting full time on Monday, October 4th. As you know, we’ve been using Dependable Cleaning as our cleaning service for the past four weeks, and although we are grateful for their work, we are looking forward to having someone full time in this position again. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Partlow.

School Mass this Friday

This Friday, October 1st, grades K-1 and 6-8 will go to the church for Mass. Our Eighth Graders will be leading us with music and September Peacemakers will be awarded. Parents are welcome to attend the weeks that their children are attending, and community members are also welcome to Friday School Masses. We ask that visitors sit in the north and south transepts instead of with the students. Masks are required of everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
