Eighth Grade Graduation

The extraordinary young men and women of our eighth grade will be graduating from Assumption tomorrow (Thursday) night, many of whom have been here since preschool. We have thirteen “graduating parents” in this group who have supported multiple children through ACS for as many as seventeen years (you win the distance award, Mrs. King!). We want to thank them for their tireless dedication and support of our school over the years.

Please keep these students in your prayers as they venture out into a new, wide world; that their time at Assumption and the relationship they’ve built with God here will guide them through the next exciting chapter of their lives. Congratulations, Eighth Graders- we are proud of you!

 

Field Day/Fun Day 2021! 

On Tuesday, June 15th we will be having an afternoon of activities, fun, and community to celebrate all the accomplishments for our students, teachers, and staff this year!  Field Day will begin at 12:30 and last throughout the afternoon. Students may wear their Fun Run T-shirts or any items of that color! We are looking forward to a great afternoon!

SAVE THE DATE 

Mark your calendars!  Assumption Catholic School’s Growing Great Kids Auction and Gala will be held on a different weekend next year.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the auction on February 26, 2022

 

The PTC is so grateful to all the parents, teachers, and staff who helped make this unprecedented year a success in so many ways!  

We are always looking for new people to join our team and help make next years’ events equally successful. The PTC is a fun way to get involved, meet other parents, and contribute to the school in a meaningful way. Below are a few roles for next year that could use your help and/or leadership. If you have any questions or would simply like to discuss what any of these roles entail, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica, at volunteer.assumption@gmail.com.  

  • Spaghetti Dinner: Seeking a handful of volunteers to help plan and coordinate various aspects of this fabulous, fall fundraiser! Get your volunteer hours completed early (most of these hours take place in September).  
  • Grandparents Day Co-Chair: Seeking a 1 or 2 parent team to coordinate a reception in the gym for our beloved grandparents and grandfriends. Takes place in November. Potentially a virtual event.  
  • Movie Night Coordinator: Seeking 1 volunteer to help plan and execute family-friendly movie nights in the gym (3 times during the school year, typically on Friday nights).  
  • Fun Run Assistant: Join our experienced team to help put on the incredibly successful Fun Run in May! Looking for 1 additional parent to learn the ropes in 2022 and take over as Chair (with a team) in 2023! 
  • Ski to Sea: Help coordinate Assumption’s participation in the Jr. Ski to Sea parade in May 2022! 
  • Variety Show: Assist with the scheduling and logistics of our student-favorite variety show in the Spring! 
  • Scrip Coordinator: Seeking 1 volunteer to manage the schedule and coordinate Scrip sales- an important year-round fundraiser.  

 

Gently Used Uniforms   

Please bring in your gently used uniforms in good condition that no longer fit! We are always in need of the navy sweaters and ¼ zip sweatshirts for our sales! We will keep you posted on when our Used Uniform Sales will be this summer. Thank you for your donations- all profits come back to the school! 

 

Health Screener and Playground Angel Volunteers 

FOUR MORE DAYS OF RECESS! Please dig deep and sign up wherever you can. We truly rely on these positions to have our students here safely. Thank you in advance for your support!  

Please note: In addition to paring down to two Health Screeners each morning, we’ve restructured our lunch recess times in order to have fewer kids on the playground.  The schedule is: 

 11:25-11:55 2nd-4th grade 

11:55-12:25 5th-8th grade 

12:25-12:55 Kindergarten and First Grade 

Please pick two half hour shifts in order to get your full volunteer hour. Thank you!

Moving Up Ceremony 

On the last day of school next Wednesday, June 16th, we will have our traditional “Moving Up” rite of passage. For our new families, this is when our students ceremoniously move from their current teacher/class to their rising grade level teacher for next school year. It will look a little different this year since we can’t all be in the church together yet, but we feel blessed to have the ability to gather outside. 

After Mass at approximately 11:15 am, all students and teachers will come to the closed traffic loop for the ceremony. Parents are welcome to watch from the grass field area. We ask that you wear a mask and stay adequately spaced from other families. When it wraps up, all students will go to their signs where you’re welcome to collect them. We’ll open the loop for the usual pick up process as well. 

 

 

Support for the Salcidos

Many thanks to the families who have gifted the Salcidos with SCRIP and financial support. Our community continually rallies when one of us is hurting. Please feel free to send items of support for them through the office anytime.

Family Promise Bed Race 

The 4th Annual Family Promise Bed Races are on for Sept 26th! 

It would be wonderful to have Assumption School represented & promoted at this community event to help raise funds for children and their families experiencing homelessness.

This event is in support of all the work the Interfaith Coalition does in our community assisting families to secure stable housing. 

 

 

Staffing Updates 

As we hire people into the vacant positions, Mr. Anderson will update families in the Wednesday Newsletter. Please direct people you know to our website if you think they would be a good candidate for any of the open positions. We’ll keep this post open for future weeks and update you here. 

Hired: New Third Grade Teacher- Beverly Williams; Office Assistant- Jessica Sidhu; Maintenance- Gary Green; Development Director- Shannon Zebrowski; Physical Education and EDP Director- Amanda McIntosh 

Hired:  Mrs. Jane Town has been hired as the fifth-grade support teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Due to the size of next year’s fifth grade (27 students), instead of splitting into two classes for a full day, we will be splitting the class for math and literature/writing. During literature and writing, Mrs. Blas will teach half of the fifth graders, and Mrs. Town will teach the other half. Additionally, Mrs. Evans will be teaching half of the fifth graders during their math time (while Mrs. Blas has the other half.) The split for the students in these subjects will be determined this summer and we will let families know in the first week of school. 

  

 

Middle School Electives, Music, and Art for 2021-2022 

Current fifth through seventh grade students will be encouraged to sign up for electives and music classes for next school year through a Microsoft Form coming next week. For parents of these children, we want to make you aware of how this will be framed in the new school year. All electives will be held two times per week and will continue to be reserved for seventh and eighth graders. They will include things like: visual art, drama, engineering/design, photography, advanced Spanish, choir, and orchestra. Sixth graders will have a visual art class every week. For their music class (twice per week), they will choose between choir and orchestra for entirety of the school year. Additionally, if we can make it work with next year’s fifth grade schedule, we hope to offer orchestra and choir to fifth graders during their regular music time, twice per week. They will also have a visual arts class each week. So the options will look like this: 

7th/8th grades: Choose between electives that will run twice per week for a semester only: visual arts, drama, engineering/design, photography, advanced Spanish; or choose one that runs for the year: choir or orchestra. 

5th/6th grade: All will have visual arts once per week. Students will choose between choir and orchestra for their music class which will run twice per week for the entire school year.

There will be no school Mass this week.
