Support for the Salcidos
As you know, Dora Salcido continues to fight her battle with cancer. Because of a limited ability to work and travel to Seattle for treatment, we’ve learned that her family would benefit most from Fred Meyer gift cards (groceries and gas) or monetary donations. If your family is able to share a little extra, we would love to support this family as they have been such an important part of Assumption (their fourth daughter is in 4th grade). Order forms went home in today’s physical envelope if you’d like to use yours to submit a scrip order for Fred Meyer on their behalf. To give a monetary gift, feel free to send back in your envelope on Thursday marked for the Salcidos. Checks can be made payable to Manuel Salcido.
Additionally, our Care & Concern Ministry will continue to coordinate meals to support the family. To sign up for a meal, please visit the link here: https://mealtrain.com/rw14nw

The 37th Annual “Ellen Anderson Fun Run” is happening on Thursday, May 13th! Keep those pledges coming in and help your student and their class earn fabulous prizes and raffle tickets (each $10 pledged earns a raffle ticket for your student). Need more info about the Fun Run? Contact the event chairs, Shannon and Natalie at: firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
There are still plenty of volunteer opportunities throughout the day to help this event run smoothly. Please sign up if you are able! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4ca5aa23a1fec25-funrun
New Volunteer Opportunity!
The school is looking for someone (or a few people!) to come trim down the hedges along the front of the building (on the Cornwall Street side). The hedges are getting so tall that the first graders can’t see out their windows! We will also ask that these volunteers haul away the trimmings along with the branches that are laying between the trees on Virginia Street (lining the playground).
This job can be done any time of day, any day of the week, but we would prefer it be finished this weekend if possible.
Please contact Jessica Sidhu at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are available to help with this.

Health Screener and Playground Angel Volunteers
Please dig deep and sign up wherever you can. We truly rely on these positions to have our students here safely. Thank you in advance for your support!
Please note: In addition to paring down to two Health Screeners each morning, we’ve restructured our lunch recess times in order to have fewer kids on the playground. The schedule is:
11:25-11:55 2nd-4th grade
11:55-12:25 5th-8th grade
12:25-12:55 Kindergarten and First Grade
Please pick two half hour shifts in order to get your full volunteer hour. Thank you!
Get your yearbook now! If you haven’t ordered your child a yearbook yet, there is still time! Please see attached flyer and turn in by this Friday, April 23rd. Your family will surely enjoy the 100 color pages of memories for years to come!
The third-grade position for 2021-2022 has been filled and we are pleased to announce that Beverly Williams will be the other third-grade teacher next year with Paula Martin-Zender. Mrs. Williams was a teacher at Assumption before having children, and she has been the EDP Director for the past seven years. She has been teaching second grade this year with Mrs. Kushner and has been a tremendous asset to our school in multiple ways. For those who don’t know, Mrs. Williams is also the creativity behind the social media posts you see on Facebook and Instagram for Assumption. Please join us in welcoming her into this position for next year. We are still determining how the current second-grade classes will be split between Mrs. M-Z and Mrs. Williams next year but will let those families know as soon as decisions have been made.
The following positions are still posted for the 2021-2022 school year. If you know anyone who might be interested in applying for any of these, please refer them to the “Employment Opportunities” section of our school website or send the following link.
Part-Time General Maintenance (NEW! to begin May 2021)
Development Director (new position)
Physical Education Teacher (Mrs. Twining is resigning.)
Part-Time Extended Day Program Director (Mrs. Williams is resigning.)
School Counselor (new position)
Activities Coordinator (Mrs. Rosen resigned from this position in December and it hasn’t been filled.)
The 8th grade class would like to thank you for the wonderful support for the Mother’s Day Basket Fundraiser this year. The funds earned will go towards their spring retreat and graduation.
If you purchased a basket, pick up will be in front of the gym up on the following dates and times:
Monday, April 26th 2:45 pm -3:15pm
Tuesday, April 27th 7:45am -8:15am & 2:45pm-3:15pm
If you are unable to pick up during these times, please email Staci Johnson at email@example.com to make other arrangements.
NOTE: To get the BEST selection, we recommend picking up on Monday afternoon.
We missed having our student ambassadors this year for assemblies, tours with families, and overall leadership. We’d like six total student ambassadors for the 2021-2022 school year, and already one of our current seventh graders will be moving into an eighth-grade role. That leaves five spots- one for eighth and two for seventh and two for sixth grade. Applications for students are being put in the Wednesday Envelope for all 5th-7th grade students this week and should be returned no later than Thursday, April 29th. We will be interviewing students on May 6th and 7th with a decision to be made by May 10th.
Free Dress on Thursday
Ms. Deets, Principal for the Day, has given Free Dress to the whole school on Thursday April 22nd. Please follow all regular guidelines for Free Dress Days.
6th-8th grade students should plan to wear their dress uniform this Friday for School Mass. Parents of children in participating grades are also welcome to attend/sit with them. Only students attending Mass in person need to wear dress uniforms, and regular uniforms for all other grades.
Upcoming Calendar Items:

April 28th– General PTC meeting (Zoom)- all are encouraged to attend
April 30th– PTC Take-and Bake Meal (see above for more details!)
