This week’s video newsletter had been a preview of a Kindergarten feature video, but there were a few tweaks we needed to make after it was published. Look for the updated version in next week’s newsletter. Your feedback and ideas are welcome!

Please plan to join us for the

  • Our Silent Auction is already available to view and bidding will open this coming Saturday, February 27th!
  •  Remember to get your raffle ticket sales in ASAP using the paper order form sent out last week (or here). The deadline is this Friday, February 26th.

Travel plans for Spring Break

We have heard that some of our families may be traveling out of state during Spring Break. With the current policy of a seven-day quarantine upon your return, some of the students may be distance learning during the week of April 12-16. If this policy changes, we will let you know. In the meantime, please provide feedback in this short 2-minute survey to help teachers plan for students who may not be in person.

Health Screener and Playground Angel Volunteers

Please help us fill many safety volunteer openings in March! Check out the link for responsibilities and openings. Please note we’ve added a spot for help with duty for the morning recess from 9:45-10:15 am. You can earn one full volunteer hour for only working these 30 minutes. Thanks for your help.

MARCH: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4CA5AA23A1FEC25-march

We are so grateful for the support Health Screeners and Playground Angels bring to our students and Duty Teachers.  Please keep in mind that we count on these safety roles when you sign up, and last-minute deletions send us scrambling for help. If you must cancel a sign up, please email Jessica Sidhu at volunteer.assumption@gmail.com so she can try to find a replacement volunteer.

Congratulations, Bratt Family!

Our Assumption family has grown! The Bratt family (sister Berit, preschool, and cousins Caroline, 3rd and Alison, 1st) welcomed daughter Silje Lou Bratt on Thursday, February 18th. Silje (pronounced “Sill-Yuh”) weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. at birth and measured 20.25 inches long.

We’re thrilled for them and so look forward to meeting this little one in person! Please keep Ashley, Alex, Berit, Olle (2), Silje & the entire Bratt family in your thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Johnson really needs our help to gather enough special photos to provide a meaningful yearbook for families this year! Photos do not necessarily need to be school-related. Please see the attached flyer for guidelines and how to share. Thank you!

School Mass on Friday, February 26th

3rd-5th grade students should plan to wear their dress uniform this Friday for School Mass. Parents of children in participating grades are also welcome to attend/sit with them. Only students attending Mass in person need to wear dress uniforms, and regular uniforms for all other grades.

From 12:30 to 3 pm next Tuesday, all students and classrooms will be participating in the Read Across America celebration. Students are invited to dress as their favorite book character this day and after lunch, they will be treated to a series of literary activities like Readers’ Theater, Scavenger Hunts, and Poetry Slams. In a typical year, students would travel from classroom to classroom while each teacher shares an activity in 20-30 minute intervals. Because of COVID this year, teachers and students will be staying in their classrooms for PS-5th grades. More information will be coming from your child’s teacher early next week with details, but all are encouraged to dress up!

VFW Art Contest

Please see the attached form for the Illustrating America: An art contest for students in grades K-8. Mrs. Santos will be promoting this in all of her art classes, but we encourage parents to talk with their children about this as well. Prizes are awarded for K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 grade levels, up to $100 in gift cards for the winning entries. Entries need to be submitted to the school and we will ensure they get to the VFW local chapter for judging.

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE!

Great job Assumption for going above and beyond in the Kid’s Heart Challenge! Assumption students have already exceeded their donation goal with still time left. This Friday will be the end of the Kid’s Heart Challenge.

With 44 students participating, the race for the class participation reward (who gets to silly string their teacher/Mr. Anderson!) is close with two classes tied for first place: Mrs. McClurg’s 1st graders and Mrs. M-Z 3rd graders. The winning class will be notified next week.

Remember, donation envelopes are due to the office this Friday.  Students who participated in the Kid’s Heart Challenge will receive their rewards next week.

Thank you to all who have participated in this important event!
