State of the School TONIGHT, February 10th at 7 pm
In previous years, the State of the School event was required for all PK-8th grade families. Childcare would always be provided so at least one parent could attend and paper re-enrollment packets would be given out that evening. For this year, our re-enrollment will be done online, and we can’t meet in person because of social distancing. However, we will still be holding the State of the School event tonight at 7 pm through Zoom. As a reminder, this is a one-hour presentation in which we share the successes from the current school year, financial updates, budgeting process for the upcoming year, facility upgrades, and a 3-5 year plan for the overall growth of the school. The information is always well received, and it helps to foster our partnership with families who care so much about our future successes. Thank you in advance for attending.

First Semester report cards went home in today’s physical envelopes. The Teacher/Principal signature lines on the actual report cards are just a placeholder for the end of the year, so can be disregarded. Report cards will be signed at the end of the school year for promotion to the next grade level. Please sign and return just the envelope to confirm receipt/review. Thank you!

School COVID guidelines for travel
If you are traveling out of state for the long weekend, please know that your children will need to quarantine for seven days starting from the day of your return before returning to school. They will also be required to have a COVID test on Day 6 of the quarantine and a negative result before returning. If you are traveling out of the country, a 14-day quarantine period and negative test are required to return to school.
Our most current county data is still at 336.0 cases/100K residents (through Feb. 8), so please continue to avoid gatherings with people outside of your immediate household.
Winter weather has returned to the playground! As long as the rain isn’t pouring down, we like to get students out for fresh air and play, so please be sure to send your kids with a warm coat. Thank you!

Change in dismissal time
Starting on Tuesday, February 16th, we will return to our regular 3:00 pm dismissal time (Monday, the 15th is Presidents’ Day). As you’ll remember, we changed this dismissal time at the beginning of the school year to provide planning time for the teachers at the end of the school day. We will remain with the current specialist rotation every two weeks for one grade level but want to bring back those instructional minutes from 2:05 to 3 pm for the classes that have been missed. EDP will also resume for after-school care from 3 pm to 6 pm starting on February 16th. Middle school students will begin a rotation of music, art, pe, and additional Spanish. They will have two sessions per week, per grade level for one month each.
A couple of other changes will also take effect.
- Doors to the school will open beginning at 7:55 am instead of 7:40 am. Students may be screened and line up outside starting from 7:40 am, but teachers will need that extra 15 minutes in the morning with the later dismissal time to prepare. Prayer begins at 8:15 am instead of 8:10 am, and students will be tardy starting at 8:15 am.
- Lunch will return to 11:30 am to 12:25 pm for all classes. There will no longer be an 11 am to 11:25 am lunch for the younger grades.
- Dismissal is 3:00 pm. Students will be lining up before that time in staggered groups, but please plan to arrive as close to 3:00 pm as possible to limit traffic on Virginia Street. The gates will be opened to let cars in at 3:00 pm.
Health Screener and Playground Angel Volunteers
Please help us fill in many open morning Health Screener slots for February! Check out the link for responsibilities and openings. Please note we’ve added a spot for help with duty for the morning recess from 9:45-10:15 am. You can earn one full volunteer hour for only working these 30 minutes. Thanks for your help.
We are so grateful for the support Health Screeners and Playground Angels bring to our students and Duty Teachers. Please keep in mind that we count on these safety roles when you sign up, and last-minute deletions send us scrambling for help. If you must cancel a sign up, please email Jessica Sidhu at email@example.com so she can try to find a replacement volunteer.
