Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, November 5th and all day on Friday, November 6th. Instead of in-person conferences, these will be scheduled Zoom calls with parents. The Zoom link will be emailed by the teacher to all families during the week of conferences. For classes that have large numbers, teachers may contact you to schedule a conference on a day other than Nov. 5th and 6th if these days won’t work. Sign-Up Genius links are listed below for each grade level and each specialist teacher, so please sign up for the most convenient times. Middle school students should sign up with the homeroom teacher but can request other teachers to be present in that conference. Middle school math is scheduled separately. Individual reports for MAP Testing (Grs. 2-8 only) will be coming in the Wednesday Envelope on Nov. 4th so that you will have that information in advance of the conference. Students and parents are invited to attend the conference for grades 2-8.

School bus service is ending this week
We’ve been trying hard to make the school bus accessible this year, but due to lack of interest we will be ending the bus service starting this week. From our survey, we thought we would have at least 15 riders each morning but, we have only 7-8 each day and many times fewer. The afternoon riders were even fewer and we waited on hiring an afternoon driver until we knew how the service would go this year. We’ve let the families know who ride the bus most frequently but wanted to communicate this change to all our school families. Please email Mr. Anderson directly with any questions.
November 30-Day Fitness Challenge
Greetings from Assumption Physical Education Program! I hope you all enjoyed the October Fitness Challenge and are looking forward to the 30-day fitness challenge for November. The October challenge ends this Friday, and I am looking forward to seeing which students completed the challenge. Remember to turn your calendars into the office next week, November 2nd – 6th. I will be hanging the October banner the weekend of November 7th & 8th.
This Sunday, you will start the November Fitness Challenge. I have adjusted some of the expectations for this challenge after receiving some feedback, as well as, having my own children complete the challenge. Once again, you should check off each day as you complete the activity and when needed, log your results. Be honest and only check off the day if you performed the full activity. However, if you forget a day, you can make up that day on a rest day (this month there will be 4 rest/make-up days). Also, new this month, if you miss a day due to a practice/game and you were physically active for more than 30 minutes, you can check off that day. At the end of the month, turn in your calendar and log sheet.
Access the workout links on the 5th, 12th and 19th in the digital version here.
For all the students who complete the challenge, I will post your names on the November banner in the gym to share your accomplishments with our school community.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com.

Health Screener and Playground Angel Volunteers
We have an ongoing need to keep these positions filled. Please check out the link for responsibilities and openings.
We are so grateful for the support Health Screeners and Playground Angels bring to our students and Duty Teachers. Please keep in mind that we count on these safety roles when you sign up and last-minute deletions send us scrambling for help. If you must cancel a sign up, please email Jessica Sidhu at email@example.com so she can try to find a replacement volunteer.
Meal Train for the Salcidos
There will be a cooler outside the school doors on Mondays and Thursdays for the Salcido Family. Please drop it off by 1:30 pm so that their daughter can bring the meal home at pick up. To sign up for a meal, please visit the link here: https://mealtrain.com/rw14nw
School Mass on Friday, October 30th
This Friday is the K-2 students’ first time at a school Mass this year. Parents of these students are welcome to attend with their children, but we ask that you wait in the gathering space until all students are seated. You will then be invited to join your child in his/her pew. (Mrs. Whelan’s Kindergarten will be in chairs behind the altar, so a few extra chairs will be set up for parents there.)
If you haven’t been to Mass with us yet this year, here are a few things that you can remember:
- The students can lower their kneelers at the beginning of the Mass and leave them down for the duration of Mass. They are used twice during the Eucharistic prayer.
- There will be no music and fewer cues to stand, sit, and kneel. You can follow the teachers and other adults to see when they do these things. We always stand for the gospel when Fr. Moore (or Deacon Larry) stands and goes to the ambo even if you don’t hear the “Alleluia.”
- If you are receiving communion, please stand when Fr. Moore arrives in your section and remove your mask before receiving the Eucharist in your hand (so you are not fumbling with the mask while it is in your hand).
- Masks are required of all parents, covering the nose and mouth. Thank you.
Trunk or Treat, Keep 6 Feet!
One last reminder that all school families are invited to join the Church of the Assumption Family Ministry’s Trunk-or-Treat on Halloween evening, this Saturday at 6:15. It will be a drive thru event with “no contact” treating in the church/school parking loop. See the flyer for details. Halloween fun can still be had in the safest way possible!
If you can commit to passing out candy at this event, follow the link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B4EADA92EABFC1-assumptions. If you’re not able to be there but would still like to help by donating candy (in sealed packaging), please feel free to bring some to the school by Friday, October 30th at 3:00 pm. Someone will happily accept it from you at the main doors!
Fully In-Person Learning for 7th/8th Grades starting next week
Mr. Anderson sent an email to all 7th and 8th grade families on Friday, October 16th explaining that we plan for all students to return Monday through Friday starting on Monday, November 2nd. This was a tentative date to give us two additional weeks to see how our protocols were working. The teachers have agreed that we will move forward with this decision and begin seeing 7th and 8th graders every day next week. Please remind your children (especially 7th and 8th graders) that we are able to do this only because our protocols and systems are working. This includes the health screenings in the morning, the one-way traffic in the hallways, and masks being worn at all times. We are excited to take this next step and looking forward to having all students back starting next week. Any students who choose to remain online will still be allowed that accommodation and teachers will continue to work with families to make this happen.
8th Grade Class Poinsettia and Wreath Fundraiser
Christmas is just around the corner! Please help support the 8th grade class by purchasing lovely poinsettias from Van Wingerden Gardens and greenery from Sherwood Farms in Lacey for your holiday decor. All proceeds support 8th grade spring retreat and graduation. Thank you in advance for supporting the class of 2021!
Please note it’s a quick turnaround and orders need to be in by November 9th. An example of the 28″ wreath is on display the school lobby and order forms went home in today’s envelope.
Yearbooks are already underway and this year we are ordering now rather than spring to get a better idea on numbers. Your student will treasure the memories for years to come. Order forms were in today’s envelope and are due by November 13th.
Upcoming Livestream Mass with Archbishop Etienne
Assumption families are invited to join Archbishop Etienne for his upcoming livestream Masses with schools in our Archdiocese.
Tuesday, November 10th at 8:00 AM with host school, Holy Names Academy, Julie Tilghman, Campus Ministry lead. Livestream Vimeo link: https://vimeo.com/463479245
The PTC would like to thank everyone who supported Italian Night To-Go this past Friday by either purchasing a dinner, sharing the order form with friends, or rolling up your sleeves to help cook and assemble meals. Under the leadership of Event Chair, Lynette Machinski and Chef-extraordinaire, Rob Viggers, it was a huge success and raised over $6,000 for the school! Thank you both SO much for your leadership and dedication to making this event possible and successful. A special thanks to Sara Rush as well who logged countless kitchen hours and helped everything run smoothly all week long.
Yard Signs: New families and incoming Kindergartners: If you would rather not keep or store your “Welcome to Assumption” yard sign, you can feel free to bring it back to the office to be re-used for years to come. We are so glad you’re here!
In this week’s physical envelope you will receive a letter and form regarding the Growing Great Kids Auction & Gala which will be held virtually on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Please save the date for the school’s biggest fundraiser!
The first step is filling out the Procurement Form. Please have this filled out with your intended donation and returned to the office no later than Dec. 1st. The physical donation is due to Angie King in the office by January 22nd. Each family is responsible for donating (or procuring) an item/basket/gift card to be put up for auction that is valued at $200 or more (Preschool/Pre-K $100). You can get a local business to sponsor the event and fulfill the “procurement” requirement, as well. The physical letter this week will explain how this requirement can be met.
Some donation ideas include:
- Scrip gift cards (which also fulfill your Scrip requirement)
- A night stay at your favorite B&B with a nearby wine tasting experience
- A night out to Mt. Baker Theater with dinner
- Hosted dinner for a group
- Spa Day/Spa Basket
- Movie Basket
- Rainy Day Games Basket
- Paintball package or party
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for supporting the auction!
