During the 40 days of Lent, as companions on the journey, we will encounter our neighbor.

Read Across America Day

On Dr. Suess’s Birthday, Monday, March 2nd, students will spend the afternoon rotating through stations in small groups with mixed grade levels. They are invited to dress as their favorite character for the whole school day even though we aren’t doing activities until the afternoon. Parents are welcome to join us in the gym at 2:30 pm for the final book reading with Mr. Anderson. Email Mrs. Whelan if you have any questions. Click on the flyer here for more information.

Saturday, March 14, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm, School Library
All new volunteers to the parish or school must take this class if they have not done so or did not take the previous course, Called to Protect for Ministries. Please go to the Virtus Online to register in advance.

Game Development/Coding

Students in Grades 3-8 (yes, we are opening this one up to the middle schoolers) are able to sign up below to spend a week with Professor Robert Harley from WWU exploring the world of Scratch.  The class is called Game Development and students will be working with code to design their own video games online.  This opportunity runs March 2-6th 3-4:45 pm and please note there is a $30 fee for this class.  Contact Bev if you have questions.

Children’s Stations of the Cross/Fish Fry

Assumption’s Family Ministry Council is hosting Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 13th.  Students of all ages are asked to sign up to help.  We need leaders, readers and candle bearers, no experience necessary!  Readings will be emailed in order to practice prior to the date.  We are excited to also combine with the Knights of Columbus and offer a Family Friendly Fish Fry!  Lenten activities for the children will also be available in the gym during this time.  Please join us for a fun, family friendly, Lenten evening!

Friday Lenten Soup Suppers

Come join us in the Assumption gym for Lenten Soup Suppers each Friday during Lent! Suppers are at 6:30 pm (±10 minutes depending on when Stations of the Cross ends) beginning Feb. 28, and continue each Friday through April 3. Bring a pot of meatless soup or some bread and join your fellow parishioners for this community-building event!

Whatcom County Math Olympiad this week end Sat. Feb. 29, 2020

Assumption is sending two teams to the annual Whatcom County Math Olympiad Championship at the Blaine High School:

5th Grade team: Nicholas Powell, Peyton Eberhardt, Sebastian Uong
8th Grade team: David Claret, Noah Chen

This is the last year that David and Noah will be proudly representing our school at the Math competition. They participated every single year since 4th grade!

Please wish them good luck if you see them before their competition this weekend!

EduArts from BAAY program

Since we couldn’t match Missoula Children’s Theater with our dates for the spring, we’ve arranged with EduArts (a school’s program with BAAY) to come in for 10-12 weeks between March and the end of the school year for a drama program. We are currently working out the details with the program’s coordinator, but it seems that the program will be offered for K-5 students (since it conflicts with track & field practices for middle school) and will run twice per week after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Look for the registration soon with a potential start date of March 17th. Please email Mr. Anderson directly with any questions.

Track and Field Coach Wanted

ACS is seeking a coach for the upcoming Track and Field season.

  • Season runs from mid-March through mid-May 2020.
  • Team will practice most weekdays after school from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.
  • Seeking someone with knowledge and enthusiasm for Track and Field who can create and enforce a safe environment both physically and emotionally for everyone in the program.
