“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” Romans 12:6

Did you know?

Did you know our Archbishop Etienne is currently in Rome meeting with Pope Francis and other bishops on a five-day Ad Limina visit? https://www.archbishopetienne.com/peter-paul-during-ad-limina

In his blog post, Archbishop Etienne asks for our continued prayers, and thanks us for our faith in Jesus Christ.

State of the School TONIGHT, February 5th at 7 pm

Just a reminder that this is a required evening for Assumption families in Pre-K through 7th grade. Mr. Anderson reviews successes from the current school year, shares continued goals from the Strategic Action Plan, provides a financial update, and explains context for a tuition increase. Childcare is provided so that at least one parent from each household can attend. It’s important that everyone in our community shares in the long-term health of our school, so thank you for making this a priority. Please email Mr. Anderson if you have questions or concerns. Enrollment packets for the 2020-2021 school are given this evening so that families can secure a space in the class by the March 1st deadline when spaces become available for new families.

Report Cards

First Semester report cards went home in today’s physical envelopes.  Please sign and return just the envelope to confirm receipt/review.  Thank you!

Open House on Sunday, February 9th for ALL CURRENT FAMILIES and prospective families

The school will open its doors this Sunday, February 9th from 2 pm to 4 pm specifically to welcome prospective families. Current families are encouraged to attend in order to have a greater energy and excitement in our hallways. Current families are also asked invite a prospective family to see the school. Families that attend (and sign in at) the Open House on February 9th will receive credit for one volunteer hour of service, AND… families who bring another family to the Open House for a visit will receive credit for two volunteer hours– one for attending and a second for bringing a friend. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Anderson directly. We hope to see many of you here on February 9th.

Two things to look forward to at the Open House:

  1. Cookie Contest- Bring a dozen cookies to share and if you choose, enter one of those cookies in a contest to win prizes. Judges may be a student ambassador, teacher, and parent(s).
  2. Scavenger Hunt– Children will receive an activity when they arrive with a series of questions to be answered around the school using a QR code. (Parents should download the QR reader app ahead of time.) Find the classroom, teacher, or space and answer all questions to receive a raffle ticket to win a $25 Amazon gift card and Assumption swag. Remember to bring a friend!

Note: Schedule change for Wednesday, February 19th

Our wise faculty have decided our students would greatly benefit from some instruction time back (even though we’re not required to make up the days missed from snow week). We have changed February 19th so that it is no longer an Early Release day- it instead will be a regular full school day

Teacher Gratitude

ACS teachers and staff are so grateful to our PTC and the many parents who contributed to the Teacher Appreciation Lunch in honor of Catholic Schools Week!  In addition to the lunch, the PTC purchased this new Keurig machine and accessories for the Staff Workroom (the old one was running at a brew rate of about ten drips/minute)! We continue to be overwhelmed by the commitment and generosity of our parents and the love your children share with us every day.  Thank you for making Assumption such an extraordinary place to work!

With gratitude for the life and service of Archbishop Brunett

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Archbishop Emeritus Alexander J. Brunett who died this past week. Services will be held in Seattle next week. Please see the announcement attached. All services are open to the public. If you can’t join in person, Mass will be livestreamed on Archdiocese of Seattle Facebook @ArchdioceseofSeattle.

We can’t believe it’s February already and that the Auction is only about a month away! Thank you to those who have turned in RSVPs. If you haven’t turned yours in yet, please do so soon. Seats are filling up quickly and we would hate for you to miss out on this truly fun event!

We’re in a push to fill the last critical jobs to ensure the night runs smoothly and successfully!  All earn fundraising hours. Please go to the Current Volunteer Opportunities page of the school site for a list of needs.

This will be the last week to turn in a bottle of wine worth $20 or more in exchange for TWO fundraising volunteer hours (you must submit the hours via portal or paper form).  Drop your wine off in the office anytime!

Check out Sneak Peek #2 of a live item in this week’s envelope!  It will leave you drooling…

Thank you all for supporting this wonderful event!

Kids Heart Challenge – Physical Education service-learning project!

On Wednesday, February 12th, the students will jump rope and travel through the heart course in Physical Education.  This American Heart Association (AHA)-supported event is an opportunity to learn more about our healthy heart and to donate to this national organization. Each student is encouraged to raise $15.00 to contribute to the American Heart Association. The goal this year is to raise $3,000.  This year the class with the largest percentage of participants contributing will earn a pizza party and free time in the gym!  Please take time to read the AHA donation information went home in today’s physical envelope.

Contribute to the ACS Yearbook

Our talented and wonderful yearbook leader, Staci Johnson, is looking for parents to share their photos of various school events.  For details, please see today’s paper flyer or find it here

Archdiocesan Overnight Summer Camps

Did you know that the Archdiocese of Seattle has the oldest Catholic summer camp program in the country? Our Archdiocese has been helping our young people experience faith and fun in the outdoors each summer at our CYO camps since 1950.

This year, Fr. Moore (who was a CYO counselor in 2010 and 2011) is trying to send a large group of Assumption students down to experience the joy of Catholic camping with other campers from all across the Archdiocese. If we can get enough campers on the same week, the Archdiocese will even send a bus up to Assumption to pick up and drop off our kids. We are looking at Aug. 03 – 08. If you would like to send your child to CYO camp this summer, and have a preference for a specific week, please let Fr. Moore know at frmoore@assumption.org. Once we pick a week, Fr. will be advertising it to the parish and the school as Assumption Week at CYO camps. Hopefully, Whatcom County campers can all go together, so that the friendships they develop there can continue when they return home.

More information about the camps and pricing can be found at http://cyo.camp

PTC News

Spring is Coming! We will be having a Used Uniform Sale on Friday, February 21st! The kids can start wearing shorts again on March 1st and many of us have that child who can’t wait to wear them! We have plenty on hand, many of them brand new. If you have any to donate, please drop them off at the office over the next week. If you are interested in helping, please see the signup: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044DAFAC2AA3F85-used.

Many of you have already donated valuable hours of your time to our school, which is so appreciated!  Make sure and log them into the Volunteer Portal and make them count! It is very helpful to our Volunteer Tracker if our families do not wait until the end of the year to turn in all of their hours at once. If you are having difficulties with this, please contact Rob Jacobs at rm.jacobs@outlook.com

SCRIP will be sold at the State of the School if you need to purchase some and help will be available to set up an account with shopwithscrip.com

Hot Lunch for February will be on Tuesday February 25th. Please mark your calendars and plan on joining your child for lunch that day!
