“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” Romans 12:6

Did you know…?

The forthcoming third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete (Latin for “rejoice”) Sunday and is meant to remind us of the joy that the world experienced at the birth of Jesus, as well as the joy that the faithful have reached the midpoint of Advent.

Volunteers Needed for December Hot Lunch

Wednesday, December 18 is our next Hot Lunch and we need parent helpers (please see your physical envelope for order forms)!  The continued success of our Hot Lunch Program is only possible with enough volunteers to keep it running.

Please sign up for a shift to help support this student and family favorite!  www.signupgenius.com

Informational Meeting re: Playground Supervision

If you’re one of our wonderful Playground Angels or are considering becoming one, please join Mrs. Lisa Cornwell in the Library on Wed, December 18th at 11:00 am (before Hot lunch).  She’ll go over guidelines for safety outside, as well as ways to help our children make the most of their recess time.

Meal Train for the Lewis Family

Please consider providing a meal for Trisha Lewis and her family. Thank you to Bev Williams for setting this up. https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/74ln3n

8th Grade Value Village Fundraiser

Clean out your closets and support our 8th Grade class!  Value Village and their FUNdrive program will help us earn dollars for our Washington DC trip. We will be collecting clothing, small toys under 18’’, and books the week of January 11th through the 18th.  Value Village will share a portion of the resale value with our students.  Acceptable items include clothing, shoes, bedding, towels, linens, hats, mittens, scarves, ties, socks, purses, wallets, bags belts, jewelry, and backpacks.  Information on drop off location and times following the Christmas Holiday break.

 Second Grade Pajama Drive

Our Second Grade class is doing a Service Learning Project collecting brand-new, cozy pajamas for Preschool through 8th Grade children. There are green bins located on each floor to drop off your brand-new pair of cozy pajama donations. These must be a complete set- a top and bottom or a onesie.  Thank you in advance for your help! Scholastic Books will match a new book for every pair of pajamas that are donated. All donations will go to children in the Bellingham and Whatcom County communities. These donations will be picked up this Friday, December 13th at 3:30 p.m.  Thank you for your generosity and support!

ACS Giving Tree

We’ve put up a few items to make our entryway festive for the season, including a tree!  You will find it contains tags that state basic items needed in general and by specific families serviced by Hope House.  If your family is able to share a little extra this Christmas, please take a tag for purchase and return your item to the school office by Monday, December 16.  No need to wrap anything!  We’ll deliver our collected items next week.  Thanks so much for your generosity!

Just a friendly reminder your procurement (donation) form was due last Friday. Please turn in your forms this week if you haven’t already and thank you to those who have.

We’ve gotten a few questions regarding the Auction that we’d like to take a minute to answer:

What does procure mean?

We know you have seen/heard this word a lot from us these past few weeks. For our Auction we ask that you procure (donate) an item that is worth at least $200. This donation can be cash, Scrip, a basket you put together of your favorite things, gift cards, airline miles, dinner for a group, time share, tickets to a show or sporting event, handmade quilt, handmade furniture etc…  If it’s something you’d bid on yourself, we’d love to have it!

Who goes to the Auction?

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come to the Auction. We always have a great mix of parents, teachers, sponsors, and parishioners. It’s truly a fun night. If you like, ask your friends and family to come and have a table of up to eight people.

What would the Auction Chairpersons like donated?

We would appreciate any donation you decide to give. As mentioned above, cash, Scrip, gift cards, tickets, etc. Places you like to go with your family, friends, date nights. Baskets that contain some of your favorite things are also great: spa items, camping items, board games, etc…

If I purchase advertising/sponsorship, do I still have to donate/procure an item worth $200?

No.  Purchasing advertising/sponsorship covers your $200 contribution obligation.

We hope this has helped clear up any confusion. We check our email daily so if you have any more questions or concerns, please email us at growinggreatkidsauction@gmail.com.

Thank you all again for supporting this critical event!

Variety Show Registration due by Wednesday, December 18th

Dear Assumption Families of talented children,

The time has come to start thinking about the Variety Show and planning our routines! Thank you, in advance, for helping us bring the kids together in this showcase of their accomplishments. Please mark the important dates below on your calendars.

This year’s performance will be held at the end of Catholic School’s Week, on Friday, January 31st. We will have both an afternoon and an evening performance, so that we can better accommodate the schedules of all families who want to come watch.

Entry forms for tryouts are in your Wednesday Parent Newsletter.

We ask that all interested students turn in their form (copy found here) for approval by Wednesday, December 18th.

We will meet after school, in the gym for tryouts on Wednesday and Thursday, January 8th and 9th.

There will be practice on January, 14th, 15th and 16th and again the following week on January, 21st, 22nd and 23rd after school, in the gym.

***It is important that you come to your first practice in your costume, or until you are checked off! All costumes must be approved by Mrs. Whelan. Once students costumes have been approved, they don’t need to wear them again until dress rehearsal.***

There will be a MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL on Thursday, January 30th, after school in the gym. It’s important that all our student performers be there for this. Running through the show, in costume, as a group makes a huge difference in how they feel about that final performance and bolsters their confidence.

We’re looking forward to another great show and we can’t wait to see what your amazing children will bring to this year’s talent show. Please email with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Jennifer Stiff and Anna Whelan

Scholastic Book Fair Update

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who helped with the Scholastic Book Fair and all the students and families who purchased items.  We brought in $5500 and earn 50% of that in book credit to be returned to the school. Your generous help raised $2800 to buy books for our school and classroom libraries!
