Did you know…?  

There are multiple versions and translations of the Bible. The Catholic version includes books that were not added later (as some might believe) but that had always been a part of the Bible and were omitted during the Reformation. If you compare a Catholic Bible with other Christian translations you may notice the absence of books like Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach, and Baruch. 

 

Grandparents/Grand-friends Day is this Friday, Nov 22nd 

We look forward to seeing many “grands” on Friday! The reception will start promptly at 9:00am with a prayer, a few songs by our Second Graders and coffee and pastries. For all our new families, this is a wonderful opportunity for your students to show grandparents around their school! 

9:00 am– Grandparents/Friends should gather outside the school entrance.  We will match adults to their grandchild(ren) to head over to the gym together.   

9:15 am- (Prayer, welcome, and Second Grade songs) 

9:45 am- Dismissal from the gym to morning recess, tours of the school, and Book Fair in the library 

(*Note: All Kindergarteners should go to their classroom at 10 am after morning recess (even those with grandparents attending). 

10:40 am– All students, grandparents, and families head to the church 

10:45-11:30 am– Grandparents Day Mass in the church 

11:30-12:30 pm– Kindergarten families in the gym for Thanksgiving play and feast; All other students at lunch and grandparents can leave at this time. However, students can visit the Book Fair WITH a grandparent or parent during this time. 

 

Individual Student Picture Prints Complete! 

We finally received the photos from orders that were placed online in September!  If you paid by check and already received your order, you will see some bonus photos of your child in today’s envelope. Lifetouch printed our entire group again since they were unable to separate those already printed from those outstanding. If you had retakes done on October 24th, those should be delivered shortly. Thanks so much to everyone for your patience as Lifetouch sorted out their issues. 

We’ve been told that no further ACS photos taken in September remain their print queue.  If you did not receive what you were expecting in today’s envelope, it will be most effective to contact Lifetouch directly: 1-866-955-8342.   

 

Variety Show has changed dates this year to January 31st (not in May/June) 

Participant registration is due by Wednesday, December 18th.  Please see the printed form in your physical envelope.

Dear Assumption Families of talented children,  

The time has come to start thinking about the Variety Show and planning our routines! Thank you, in advance, for helping us bring the kids together in this showcase of their accomplishments. Please mark the important dates below on your calendars. 

This year’s performance will be held at the end of Catholic School’s Week, on Friday, January 31st. We will have both an afternoon and an evening performance, so that we can better accommodate the schedules of all families who want to come watch.  

Entry forms for tryouts are in your Wednesday Parent Newsletter.  

We ask that all interested students turn in their form for approval by Wednesday, December 18th 

We will meet after school, in the gym for tryouts on Wednesday and Thursday, January 8th and 9th 

There will be practice on January, 14th, 15th and 16th and again the following week on January, 21st, 22nd and 23rd after school, in the gym. 

***It is important that you come to your first practice in your costume, or until you are checked off! All costumes must be approved by Mrs. Whelan. Once students costumes have been approved, they don’t need to wear them again until dress rehearsal.*** 

There will be a MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL on Thursday, January 30th, after school in the gym. It’s important that all our student performers be there for this. Running through the show, in costume, as a group makes a huge difference in how they feel about that final performance and bolsters their confidence.

CHRISTMAS EVE YOUTH CHOIR 

Mark Your Calendars! Inviting all youth in grades K-8 of Assumption Parish. Come be a part of the Christmas Eve Youth Choir at the 5:00 pm Mass on Tuesday, December 24th.   

Practice dates and times will be MONDAYS December 2, 9 and 16 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. We need strong older voices as well as strong younger voices.

Starts tomorrow! 

Get ready to shop for lots of fun books at our school. The Book Fair will be open Nov. 21, 22, and 25 in the school library from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Add to your home library, get a head start on your Christmas shopping, and be sure to look for your teacher’s wish basket if you’re able to buy a book for your child’s classroom. Remember, the money we raise helps fund our school and classroom libraries. 

 

Human Food Chain food collection for Hope House 

We’ve made great progress collecting food donations for Hope House, but could always use more items!  Donations should be placed under the bulletin board by the school office.  A lovely poster adorns the drop off area- if we cover it entirely with donations by this Friday, Nov 22, students will receive free dress (date TBD)!  

Hope House can accept all unexpired, non-perishable, non-glass items. On Monday, November 25th, our students will form a Human Food Chain that will line the sidewalk from the church to Hope House, passing food down the line. A prayer service and blessing of the food will begin at 8:30 am in the church. All parents are welcome!

AUCTION DONATION DEADLINE 

Just a quick reminder that your auction donation item is due December 6th. If you need some ideas, please email us growinggreatkidsauction@gmail.com. 

WANTED: If you or someone you know has video and editing skills please let us know. We’re in need of someone to help us make the Growing Great Kids video for the auction. The video needs to be 1-2 minutes long, fun and light-hearted, focusing on our “Fund the Need” this year which is a new playground.

Assumption School Foundation Fundraising Update 

New total: $48,135 as of 11/15/19, still at 36% participation from current families. Please make your contribution before December 13, 2019. 

The goal this year is 100% participation from our families. There were 44 families that designated a donation to the Assumption School Foundation (“Support for a Century”) on the 2019-2020 registration form. If you were one of these and you haven’t paid already by check, you will see this listed on your December tuition statement.  

If you didn’t designate an amount on the registration form in the spring and would like to donate, please fill out the remittance envelope included with the Annual Report and return it to the school by Friday, December 13th. You may also want to look on our Facebook page for ways to donate on #GivingTuesday (December 3rd) for matching donations or on the school’s website.  

 

ALL FAMILIES INVITED! 

The wonderful season of Advent is approaching, and you are invited to a Family Advent Social!  This event is going to be held on Sunday, November 24th at 11 am and sponsored by the Family Ministry Council and Whole Family Catechesis.  Come learn how to make this season a holy time of preparation for your family and a time to socialize and share ideas with others.  Coffee, and hot chocolate will be served in addition to a bake sale hosted by Catholic Daughters.  It will a fun family event fit for children of all ages! 

 

Archdiocese Mass and March for Life 

The annual Mass for Life and March for Life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.  Please see the attached letter for details.

Once you login you will see a screen which shows you how many remaining required hours you have to complete for the school year.  It also will show you your Current Fundraising Hours logged and your Current School Hours logged. It is all very simple and very easy to navigate!

THE RENOVATION HAS BEGUN!

A huge thank you to Casey Trosin, and Staci and Mark Johnson for their help in taking down the tiles in our entryway last week! Casey did an amazing job in leading the project to completion in one night! We are so thankful for his leadership and guidance in starting our renovation. The next step is the patching of the drywall, followed by the painting of the hallway/entryway! The new flooring will be ordered this week and is scheduled to be replaced over Christmas break. We will be looking for volunteers to help M&M Flooring with this, so be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities to be announced! 

 

Launching Success gives back! 

Thinking about Christmas shopping?  Shop Local!  Visit Launching Success during the week of December 8-14 and mention that you are shopping for Assumption Catholic School. They will donate 10% of your purchase to the school!  Online purchases count as well, so please share this information with out of town relatives and friends.  Browse now from their great selection of educational materials and toys and make your purchases just in time for Christmas.
