Picture Retakes – Thursday, October 24th  

If your child needs picture retakes, they will be done on Thursday, October 24. Students may come to school in free dress but must change into their uniform after their picture has been taken.  They must also return their original picture packet to the Lifetouch photographer. Pictures will be taken first thing in the morning. 

 

TRUNK OR TREAT! 

Assumption Family Ministry Needs YOU this Saturday, October 26th!  They are looking for more families who are willing to open their trunks and pass out candy at this fun community event. Prizes will be given for the best decorated trunks (along with the best Saint costume). Parent-Teacher Conferences

Conferences are on November 7th from 12:30 to 7:00 and November 8th from 8:00 to 3:00.  Please sign up for a conference time with your student’s teacher on one of those days.  Please note that all middle school students must attend their conference as well as 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.

Scholastic Bookfair 

This is a fun way to earn fundraising hours and raise money for our school! Volunteers needed to help during sales by running the cash register, assisting students and parents with finding books, and restocking displays. Volunteers also needed to help repack books and products after the book fair and assist with clean up. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Smith at nsmith@school.assumption.org

GIRLS BASKETBALL- Calling All Hoopsters! 

Basketball season is just one week away and we need more middle school girls to sign up in order to make a team this year.  Coach Nikki Lockhart is excited to lead the Eagles as head coach, and if that’s not enough incentive the girls are also getting new uniforms this year!  Please return registration forms by this Friday, October 25th.  The first practice is Monday, October 28th from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.  If you have any questions, please contact Audra Rosen, Activities Director at arosen@school.assumption.org or 360-441-9099. Note: Study hall will be provided from 3:15-4:30 pm. 

 

We are off to a great start!  Today, Wednesday, the boys and girls will start the double elimination tournament. Our first game will be starting at 3:30 with the boys’ game of Saint Sebastian vs Saint Michael followed by the girls’ game of Saint Joan of Arc vs Saint Kateri.
 

Don’t forget, THURSDAY at 3:30, the teachers will be taking on their former students in the annual teacher vs alumni.  Some come cheer them on! 

Don’t forget to come check out the concessions and help support our 8th graders. 

 

8th Grade Class Poinsettia and Wreath Fundraiser 

It’s that time of year again!  Our 8th Grade class is selling poinsettias and wreaths to help raise money for their upcoming retreats and events. Spread holiday cheer and help fill your family and friends’ homes and offices with beautiful poinsettias and wreaths!  

Order forms are available on the school website.  Order deadline is Monday, November 4.  Poinsettias and wreaths will be delivered on Thursday, December 5th and Friday, December 6th from 7:45 am-8:15 am and 2:45 pm-3:15 pm in front of the school gym. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 

In this week’s physical envelope you will receive a few forms regarding the Growing Great Kids Auction & Gala which will be held on March 7, 2020. This is our school’s largest fundraiser and this year marks the 20th anniversary of our fantastic event. We hope you will save the date and join our school and parish communities to celebrate with us! 

Planning for the event is underway and we need everyone’s help to accomplish some big fundraising goals. The first step is filling out a Procurement Form. Each family is responsible for donating (or procuring) an item/basket/gift card to be put up for auction that is valued at $200 or more. This donation can be accomplished in a variety of ways outlined below.  

  1. Procurement Letter & Form: This form must be filled out and returned to the office by no later than Dec. 6th.  

Ways you can fulfill your obligation are: 

  • Cash donation of $200 
  • Procuring an item(s) that is worth $200 or more. (Examples: gift cards to a restaurant you like, Amazon, local business you frequent). Put together a themed basket (a few ideas outlined below) or think of an experience that many would enjoy. We think the best donations are things that you would want to buy at an auction! Keep in mind that if you have a great idea for an item or experience worth more than $200, you can join with another family to purchase the item together! 
  • Sponsor the event. Do you own or know a business that would benefit from advertising to our community? We have sponsorship options to suit any budget and this can fulfil your family obligation as well! Keep an eye out for more information on sponsorship opportunities coming in next week’s Wednesday mailer. 

Other Donation Ideas: 

  • A night stay at your favorite B&B with a nearby wine tasting experience 
  • A night out to Mt. Baker Theater with dinner 
  • Hosted dinner for a group 
  • Spa Day/Spa Basket 
  • Movie Basket 
  • Rainy Day Games Basket 
  • Paintball package or party

  1. The next form you will see is the Classroom Project Letter w/ envelope (separate from the procurement donation): This optional (but important) donation must be returned to the office by Oct. 31st. All funds raised go toward supporting the classroom/student projects for the grades of your students.

Bellingham Chamber Choral Fall Concert 

Our own Middle School Choir Director, Frederick Mabalot, invites ACS families to SAVE THE DATE for Bellingham Chamber Chorale’s upcoming Fall concert entitled “Awakening” at Church of the Assumption! 

Saturday, November 9th at 7:30 pm 

Sunday, November 10th at 4:00 pm (Also Frederick’s second and final doctoral recital)

Volunteer at Assumption’s School Garden Work Party! 

Come support Assumption’s school garden education program by attending our winterization work party! We will be meeting on Saturday, November 2nd from 1-4 pm in the school garden to the right of the parking lot. We’ll be weeding, sheet mulching beds to protect them over winter, repairing wooden raised beds, and constructing a new compost bin. All are welcome to attend, and if you have construction skills or tools you would be willing to lend for the day, we’d be especially grateful for your support! If you are interested in volunteering, please RSVP to Caroline Boschetto, Assumption’s Common Threads Food Educator: caroline@commonthreadsfarm.org. We hope to see you there!

Reserve Your Spot For the Holiday Bazaar!  

Reserve your vendor table now for the December 1 Holiday Bazaar in the ACS gym! Hard copies of the registration form were sent home last week, and you can find it here on the school website. This new event is open to all ACS students, parents and parishioner crafters and artists of Whatcom County parishes, and is a fun way to connect with our school and parish communities! Reserve your spot by November 8 to take advantage of the early bird pricing–simply fill out the form and return it in your Wednesday envelope or bring it into the school office with your registration fee. BONUS: ACS student vendors and artists receive a $10 discount on advertised table pricing when you mention you saw it in the Newsletter! 

We are also looking for a few volunteers to help with the event. Head on over to the Sign Up Genius and sign up for set up, clean up, selling or baking baked goods, or taking photographs of attendees. All of the time spent on this event will count toward fundraising hours!

FINAL CALL ON BOX TOPS! Please be sure to have your clipped Box Tops to the school office or to your classroom by this Friday, Oct. 25th! Have you asked your neighbors and family if they have any Box Tops you can bring in? Remember that Box Tops is going digital! Have you downloaded the Box Top app yet?  We now have to scan receipts to earn money for our school as they phase out the clipping of Box Tops! Please help Assumption by scanning your receipts! 

 

Fundraising Commitment Hours:  

Would you like to help us raise money for a new playground? We are looking for anyone who may be interested in assisting us with writing a grant or two for a couple of projects that we are hoping to work on. The largest project is for a new playground! There are many grants out there available for playgrounds that we would be eligible for, we just need your writing skills to help us try and get them!  The other project is for an exciting physical education package for Mrs. Campbell.
