“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” Romans 12:6
Did you know…?
…that God is always trying to get your attention? In the beauty of moss and ferns on the side of a trail, He’s reminding you that He created our world for you to enjoy and take care of. He’s sending you his love in the kindness of others and through your pets’ snuggles when you’re sad. In every crucifix, he’s showing you that he’ll give you EVERYTHING, even his life, so that you can be with him eternally. And God is always eager to listen; He has time for you whenever you are ready because He is infinite. God wants you to let him love you.
Morning drop-off and changing daily Mass times
Please remember, if you arrive before 7:40 am, to keep your child(ren) with you in the car until the yard duty is present at 7:40 am. There are still children being left earlier than 7:40 am without supervision.
Note: Daily mass times will be changing starting next week (October 1st). Every Wednesday and Thursday only, if you would like to drop off your child by 7:15 am for daily Mass (now beginning at 7:15 am), we are working to have adult supervision in the church those two days each week. Please check before leaving your child at the church to be sure an adult is present. Please see the attached letter from Father Moore explaining the change: Daily Mass Letter 9.2019

If you provided cell phone info to us and did not receive those messages, please let us know: email@example.com. Thank you!
Faith – Love – Basketball
We need players!
Our 5th annual Holy Hoops 4 on 4 basketball tournament is just around the corner – October 22nd – 25th. This tournament is FREE, and we are encouraging all 5th – 8th grade students to participate. No basketball experience is necessary. All players will receive a TEC Holy Hoops t-shirt, be invited to the end–of–event BASH, and they will build life-long memories with teammates and competitors.
We need coaches!
We are also looking for Assumption Alumni to help coach! Whether it’s for the whole week or one day, we need YOU! We are able to work around school and sports schedules. This is a wonderful way to give back to your school and also get high school service hours. Coaches also receive TEC Holy Hoops t-shirts; the music room is open for studying and food will be provided by the Holy Hoops committee.
We need sponsors!
The running of this free community event relies upon support in the form of sponsorships from local families and businesses. Your generous donations go toward purchasing t-shirts for the teams, food and support for our coaches and referees, and prizes for winning teams. Please feel free to pass this onto your employer, friends and family who may want to sponsor. Our hope is that this event continues to be a long-standing tradition at our school, encouraging teamwork, good sportsmanship and community building.
Let’s continue to make Holy Hoops a tradition that Assumption families can enjoy for years to come! If you have any questions or concerns, contact Lisa Twining at firstname.lastname@example.org.

EDP Extension Camp: Lacrosse
We are very excited to welcome back the coaches from Bellingham Youth Lacrosse and the Warriors for our next Extension Camp! Remember all students can participate in these camps by contacting Bev (firstname.lastname@example.org) and there is no cost for this week. Look for the sign up in your email and mark your calendars for October 7-11, with pick up at 4:15.
MAP Testing- September 23 through October 11th
Starting the week of September 23rd, all 2nd through 8th graders will participate in the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) bi-annual testing. Please don’t make appointments or schedule vacations through which your child will miss school during these important three weeks of testing. Most tests, approximately one hour in length, will be administered between 8:15 am and 11:30 am, but some days might have an afternoon test.
All students in grades 3-8 take four tests: science, language, reading, and math. Second graders take three tests (all but science). Make-up testing, if needed, will be done the week of October 7th. This test is not meant to rank students or compare them to the national average, but it is used for students to set their own academic goals for the school year in the form of a RIT score. Teachers also use this important data to inform instruction and collaborate with each other on school-wide essential standards.
Middle school electives and Math Olympiad for 5th-8th grades
There has been some confusion about 5th-8th grade electives because we made changes after the sign-up went out at the beginning of the school year. For the month of September, while school Masses are still at 10:30 am, there will be no electives on Fridays. The one exception is Choir which needs to rehearse for Mass and will meet in the church on Fridays at 9:45 am. Starting on October 4th, Mass times will change to 10:45 am and electives will begin at 10 am every Friday.
Additionally, Math Olympiad was given as an option for 5th and 6th graders after the sign-ups went out. Therefore, any student in 5th or 6th grade enrolled in Math Olympiad elective will only meet on Thursdays and Fridays during their regular elective time. There is no after-school Math Olympiad time for 5th and 6th grades- just elective time. However, 7th and 8th grade participants who are in Math Olympiad on Thursday and Friday during electives will also be after school on Friday afternoons with Arpad Benyi. There will be no charge for this but registration is required. Students enrolled in Math Olympiad are ALL encouraged to participate in the competition in February (all grades 5-8).
FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST REGISTRATION for the 2019-2020 school year will end on October 13 for Church of the Assumption. The first class is on Sunday, October 13 beginning at 11 am in the Church. They would very much appreciate registrations BEFORE that day, but please note that October 13 is the deadline. Please contact Kathy Ernst or Adriana Estrada at the Pastoral Center Office with questions: 360-733-1380.
REMINDER: Protecting God’s Children Class is Thursday, October 3, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm in the Teachers’ Lounge
If you have questions, or need help signing up, please contact Angie King at 360-733-6133 or email@example.com.
A HUGE Thank You to Rob Viggers and Dayna Dennis for the countless hours that they put into delivering a spectacular Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday night! What a wonderful community-building event they put on, in addition to making $6,000 for our school! We are blessed to have them! Thank you also to Staci Johnson for always transforming our gym into an amazing wonderland with her decorating skills! And we must not forget the countless parent volunteers who showed up starting at 8 am until we locked the doors at 10 pm! Without the help from all of you we could not make this happen! Thank you, Assumption community, for supporting our school! This is Mrs. Dennis’s last year as the Chairperson of the Spaghetti Dinner. If you are interested in chairing this event next year, please talk to her at the school office or Jessica Sidhu: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please mark your calendars for the first PTC General Meeting of the year on October 9th at 7pm in the School Library. EDP will offer childcare for all ages. Smaller children are welcome to stay with you for the meeting. Free dress on Thursday for kids with a parent attending. We will give you an update on PTC events and finances followed by Mr. Anderson who will give a briefing on the Technology Boot Camp for 5th-8th graders that was given earlier that day. Hear what your children learned about safely navigating social media, protecting their passwords, and discerning fact and fiction on the Internet.
