All Are Invited to Eighth Grade Graduation

We encourage ALL Assumption families to attend the graduation on Wednesday, June 5th at 6 pm. Students who tell their teachers they are going graduation will receive a NO HOMEWORK PASS for that evening. This night is a culmination of many years of hard work and since we don’t celebrate it during the day as a school, we want the chance for all Preschool- 7th grade families to participate in this celebration. Please mark your calendars to attend this wonderful rite of passage next Wednesday.

2019-2020 Paperwork Packet – DUE June 14th!

All the paperwork needed to start next year is in your parent envelope today. Please note that some forms are per student. The office compiles this information over the summer to be able to start the year updated and correct! Please fill it out and return before June 14th… sooner is even better!

End-of-Year Pool Party from 12 pm to 3 pm on Friday, June 14th

See the flier attached to this week’s envelope and print and return it to the office if your child would like to attend the end-of-year pool party at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club on the last day of school. Thank you, Natalie Milligan, for organizing this!

Potential Change for School Bus

We are considering changing the afternoon bus service from a 3:15 departure to a 4:30 pm departure in order to serve more families in co-curriculars and other activities. Even if your child doesn’t currently ride the school bus but you live outside of Bellingham (Everson, Lynden, Blaine, Ferndale), please fill out the attached survey so that we can best serve the needs of the school community.

Keep the Stoddard Family in Your Prayers

On May 25th, Jason Stoddard, the uncle of Claire (kindergarten) and Jack (third grade), passed away unexpectedly in Spokane. He was only 48 years old and left a wife and three daughters. Please hold the Stoddard family (Paul, Melissa, Claire, and Jack) in your prayers these next few weeks as they prepare to travel to Spokane for the funeral. Paul has given us permission to share the family’s GoFundMe page in order to help with medical bills and funeral costs. If you would like to find out more about Jason and/or support the family, please visit this link:

Faith on Fire – “Catholic Family Weekend”

In its ninth year, this program comes highly recommended from one of our school families and is happening on July 12-14 at St. Mary’s in Anacortes. Follow the link to register and see the flier in this week’s envelope for more information.

Audio/Visual Installation – Volunteers Needed

Great news… The equipment has been ordered and the installation of the new A/V equipment in the gym will happen between Monday, June 24th through Thursday, June 27th. Thank you to parents- Mike Harbick and Andrew Cramer, for making this happen. If you still need volunteer hours and you have expertise in the trades (electrical, construction, etc.) or you know someone who does, we need you! Here are the jobs we are looking to complete. Please commit to at least two of the four full days so that we know we can count on you. Thank you, in advance, for your help! Email Mr. Anderson or Mike Harbick at to let us know what you can do.

Jobs/expertise needed:

  1. Install three electrical boxes for the system, projector, and screen.
  2. Hang the screen
  3. Mount the projector to the beam on the ceiling of the gym

If you have any fun or funny photos of Fr. Scott, please email them to by May 31st. We are putting together a slide show for his farewell party. Thank you!

Student Ambassadors

The interview team and I were so impressed and pleased with the quality of candidates and the work they put into their applications and interviews for the Student Ambassador role for next year. Since we only need six total Ambassadors and one alternate, we did have to narrow it to four final students- two sixth graders and two fifth graders. This was a very difficult decision since they all did so well.

I want to thank Ms. Gottschalk, Evelyn, Colby, and Lily for their help with the interviews. We rated the students in multiple categories such as eye contact, handshakes, and preparedness. We also asked them eight questions and rated their responses. With all of these scores combined and further discussion with the team, we decided on the following students:

  • Ava May Wenzel
  • Sabrina Quinn
  • Alden Bachmeier
  • Amelia Balogh

However, since all students were so well-spoken and prepared, I am hoping that we’ll have roles for each of them next year, as well. At the least, they may be asked to help with things like the pumpkin carving contest, Peacemakers, or theme days during Catholic Schools Week.

They are also encouraged to apply again next year since two more spots will open when our eighth graders graduate. I want to thank all candidates for taking this risk and for having the courage to apply.

Library Book Return

It is time to start rounding up any books checked out from the school library. I will be sending home a list of all books currently checked out to your child(ren) in today’s parent envelope. All items are due back by Friday, May 31st. If there are any items not returned by the end of the school year, you will be billed a replacement fee. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at Thank you, Your Librarian, Nancy Smith

Volunteer Appreciation Tea and Volunteer of the Year on Friday, June 7th

FINAL Box Tops Collection Contest

The last collection contest of the year ended on June 3rd. Once again, Mr. Costanza’s class turned in the most Box Tops. They already have a pizza party next week but we will be enhancing their day with something extra in celebration of their additional success! Continue to collect Box Tops over the summer because you can bet there will be a contest at the beginning of school in the fall! Congratulations!
