THIRD GRADERS ARE CALLED TO BE PEOPLE OF INTEGRITY
Third Grade News
February 3, 2012
During the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3 the third grade focused on these concepts.
LITERACY
The stories read in the class this week by specific groups of students were Your Dad was Just Like You, and Amelia Earhart . The comprehension skill practiced was being able to identify generalizations made in a story. The spelling/phonics word parts focused on were the aw vowel combination as in draw and the vowel sound of “o” as in lost. Students completed a writing project related to how Assumption Catholic School shows Faith, Academics, and Service.
MATH
Students practiced answering word problems using a complete answer with the word because and labeling all numbers. This is the answer I would expect on all word problems handed in. Students also created word problems for other students to solve.
RELIGION
Each student in the class contributed an idea about how people show that they are persons of integrity. These ideas will be featured on the large bulletin board on the first floor during the month of February.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Groups of 3 or 4 students were given a Native American group to read information about. These First Nation groups include the Oneida and Cherokee from the Iroquois Nation, the Hopi from the southwest region, the Sioux Nation from the plains region, and the Nootka, from the northwest coast region. The groups will be reading about the homes, clothes, foods, tools, roles, art, and environment from each group. The final project will include a 3D model of the village of each First Nation group.
SCIENCE
The class worked on a Web Quest related to what an estuary is. The concepts focused this week focused on the definition of an estuary, watershed, and what animals are affected by tides and waves.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
In physical education students are beginning dance reviewing children dances and tinickling.
