Welcome!
I am excited to be teaching Sixth Grade Math! Throughout the course of the year, you will solidify your foundations of math so that you will be ready for pre-algebra next year. You will be analyzing problems and develop greater critical thinking skills. You will also be modeling some mathematical concepts in order to gain a deeper understanding of numbers and operations. You will become familiar with different forms of numbers including decimals, fractions, and percentages.
Materials
Each day, please bring the following supplies with you:
Go Math Textbook and math folder
Vocabulary Journal
Two pencils and red ballpoint pen to correct homework
Completed homework assignment
Positive attitude
Classroom Expectations
* Be respectful of yourself, others, and the environment
* Be attentive and participate during class
* Try your personal best
* Keep your work centered on math
Homework
Homework is assigned regularly. It is due at the beginning of class on the day after the assignment is given. Missed homework can be turned in; however, you will not receive a full grade. Any work that is greater than two weeks late will not be accepted.
Homework is a time to try, persevere, and make mistakes in order to learn. We will correct homework at the beginning of each class. All completed, corrected, and on-time homework will receive full credit. In order to receive full credit, you will need to do the following:
Name and date on the paper
All problems tried and completed neatly
All work shown
Corrected in red ballpoint pen
Turned in on time
Grading
The class will be graded based on these categories:
40% Tests
10% Vocabulary Journal
30% Homework (including projects)
20% Quizzes
Tests and Quizzes
I will always give you advance notice before tests and quizzes. Quizzes may be given mid-chapter to assess understanding of concepts and strategies. If you miss class the day before a test and return on test day, you will be expected to take the test as scheduled. If you have missed two or more days before a test, come see me and we can make arrangements for you to take it at a later date. If you receive a grade less than a C, you may take the test or quiz again but the grade may only be raised to a C.
Vocabulary Journal
A vocabulary journal has been provided for you. In your journal you will write the vocabulary words and definitions for the chapter we are studying. Journals will be checked at the end of each chapter and graded based on their completeness. Do not rip out the pages. For each test you will be responsible for knowing the definitions we have covered so far in the course.
Missed work policy
It is your responsibility to ask for make-up work and notes when you have been absent from class. Adequate time is allowed to make up the work, depending on the reason and the duration of the absence.

Each person has different strengths and different challenges. If you find that you need help with a concept, please ask during class. If this does not work you can also:
