The primary purpose of the Co-Curricular Activity program at Assumption Catholic School is to promote the physical, mental, aesthetic, social, emotional, and moral well-being of the students through participation and competition.
The goal of Assumption Catholic School’s Co-Curricular program is to provide a wide variety of activities that emphasize good sportsmanship, dedication to performance improvement, team effort, personal and spiritual growth and fun.
Girls and Boys, Grades 6-8: A long-held tradition at Assumption Catholic School, our basketball program is part of the Whatcom County League and runs from October 31, 2016 – December 14, 2016. Both girls and boys, grades 6-8 are welcome to participate. Teams will participate in 10 games throughout the season and at least 10 practices are required for each team member before he or she can participate in a game.
Girls, Grades 6-8: The volleyball season runs from January 23, 2017- March 17, 2017 and all girls, grades 6-8 are welcome to participate. Our team is a member of Whatcom County League and participates in 10 games throughout the season. Students learn team work, good sportsmanship, and have a lot of fun along the way.
Boys, Grades 6-8 (Girls welcome): Our wrestling program is a great way for students to learn and practice discipline, toughness, and dedication. Our past teams have been comprised of boys, but girls in grades 6-8 are welcome and encouraged to participate as well. We compete in the Whatcom County League and the season runs from January 23, 2017- March 17, 2017. At least 12 practices are required to participate in matches throughout the season.
Girls and Boys, Grades 6-8: Ms. Joslin is the current coach. The training program offers a great way for students to get outside, get in great shape, and experience tremendous personal growth. Participating in the Whatcom County League, the season runs from August 29, 2016 - October 31, 2016 and all boys and girls in grades 6-8 are welcome to participate. Ten meets are held throughout the season and 8 practices are required to compete.
Track and Field
Girls and Boys, Grades 6-8: The Track and Field season runs from March – May and all boys and girls in grades 6-8 are welcome. Ten meets are held throughout the season and 8 practices are required to compete. This team participates in the Whatcom County League and is a great way to learn how to compete as an individual and on a team, good sportsmanship, and a variety of new skills.
Chess Club starts in October and is open to 1st through 8th grade. Chess is an award-winning program, supporting excellent progression from novice to experienced competitors. The Chess Club is a competitive program that competes in tournaments all over Whatcom County, not only as individuals, but as a team as well. In April those who qualify will compete in the Washington State Elementary Chess Championships. The program is chaired by Mrs. Angie King and coached by Mr. Peter Witecki and Mr. Foeke van de Poel. The club currently meets on Wednesdays after school. Watch for specifics when to sign-up in the school newsletter.
In order to participate in Assumption’s athletics program, all Middle-School students need to have a C- or better in every class and no Behavior Reports.
